What to expect after sweep

Had sweep yesterday doc said cervix still long and posterior so not very successful but she tried her best. Ive had bloody discharge ever since and some crampy back pains over the course of yesterday. The pains have gone but discharge still there do you think this means something might be happening or can this just happen after sweep because of the exam and have nothing to do with labour gearing up? thanks

I had one yesterday too but it wasn't a complete success as apparently my cervix was so posterior she couldn't fully reach it. Bloody hell it hurt! I'd rather have ten smears than another one of those! I have had a bit of bloody discharge since too, and REALLY bad back pain - it was agony in the night. Was really hoping it might be the start of something. But since I've got up there's been nothing, so I'm thinking that the discharge is just a side effect of being poked about and not a sign of labour, sigh...

I had a sweep with my 1st baby and wouldn't have another with baby number two, all it did was made me bleed horrendously, so I won't recommend it but that is just my point of view.

was just about to start a sweep thread myself when i saw yours sassy23
my mw will be giving me a sweep wed maybe thurs next week. im dreading it as when i had 1 with ds it bloody hurt and i sobbed for hours afterwards, felt so violated!! she told me it was just like having a smear! err no it isnt. more like they are reaching for your tonsils!!!!
ds was emcs in the end and im attempting vbac delivery this time so although id rather not have it done im going to anyway as its 1 extra thing i can do to get things moving naturally.
does anyone know the stats on how successful they are? how quick is it ment to work? i thought it was 24 ish hrs. also interestingly mw said with 2nd or subsequent pregnancies its more successful as cervix doesnt close completely. from those with experience what do you ladies think about that?

I was told my sweep probably wouldn't work as baby high up. The doctor had a great record in them apparently.

The pain was unbelievable and the shock brought tears to my eyes. As I left I thought I was going to throw up. Didn't feel great all day. Went into labour that night. 36 hours later DS born.

Brutal but effective.

I think some midwives can be more gentle but are less effective.
