Friend with painful c section wound.

She's in agony, and wants to know if it's normal. I had a section (only 9 months ago) but I can't remember it hurting that badly. I think this maybe becuase I have a totally useless, non driving DP, so I had to walk everywhere, and do lifting etc and just grin and bear it. I know my wound still hurts now, but pain is v bearable.

Anyone have any ideas????/

When did she have her Caesarian? Mine still hurts sometimes 20 months on.

Fio2 · 12/09/2005 08:45

how long ago did she have it?

I know i took painkillers until at least week two but I was out of hospital within two days doing 'normal' new mum stuff around the house after, even pushing prams, lifting etc. it is uncomfortable but not agonising

moozoboozo · 12/09/2005 08:58

she had her dd last wednesday

it will most probably still hurt then, get her to take some painkillers. think it was co-codamol when i had mine

Twiglett · 12/09/2005 09:02

she has had major abdominal surgery of course it still hurts... tell her to make sure she is taking the pain killers .. don't stint on them they are designed to get you through the first few weeks

I am a little confused that people are still complaining of pain months afterwards .. that doesn't seem right .. in my experience of 2 sections its all gone by 6 weeks .. maybe there's weird numbness but I don't think there should still be pain

Melpomene · 12/09/2005 09:10

Yep, normal for it to be hurting after a few days. Take the painkillers. She also needs to make sure she gets enough rest (rest in bed with the baby if need be), and that she doesn't lift anything heavier than her baby. Does she have a partner at home to take care of the housework and any other children?

My cs wound hurt quite a lot for the first couple of weeks. Now, 4 months on, it still hurts if I put pressure on it, eg if I'm leaning forward over a worktop or if dd1 climbs over me.

moozoboozo · 12/09/2005 09:10

Cheers, I really cannot remember how much it hurt, but I think I was so out of it for about 4 weeks, the first days are a bit hazy anyway!!!!!

i had mine 11 months ago and it still got the tiny bit of tenderness and numbness as it will take a long while before you fully recovered (summat like 3 yrs!)

pookstermum · 13/09/2005 17:36

hi,

Could she have an infection? Mine stopped getting better and after having it drained the HV on her next visit said "umm I thought you might have an infection"!!! I do wonder why she didnt say anything, could have saved me a fair amount of pain.

Harriett · 13/09/2005 17:41

I had my dd by emergency c-section 7 weeks ago and my wound got infected after a week or so, it got so bad that I was unable to walk. I am now on antibiotics and it's so much better asnd now I am just feeling the 'normal' after pains of the surgery. My wound was weeping a lot and wasn't healing. hope my gruesome tale helps!

CHOCOLATEPEANUT · 13/09/2005 21:32

Tell her to get some arnica.I took it as soon as I was out of theatre and I healed v quickly. It hurt but I was so thrilled at being a mum I ignored it. I was up and about in less than 24 hours and driving and doing normal stuff after a week (got a teeling off from all corners though,so probably not to be recommended!)
Hope she feels better soon

I used a lavender oil in the bath for the first few months, and I think that helped. But she does need to take it easy. I had dh at home for the first two weeks, and he got him to really look after me. She also needs to check if it hurts all the time, or just when she moves (I remember laughing was not good, and sneezing agony!). If it's all the time I would check with the MW / HV.

KBear · 13/09/2005 21:45

It shouldn't be agony after a week - tender, sore, painful possibly but not AGONY. Tell her not get it checked anyway to put her mind at rest.

to get it checked.....must preview
