Dd3 is now 8 days old. I started with aheadache yesterday , more in my neck & around my head than my usual migraines. Just wondered if this could be linked to the spinal ( been having lower back pain) or whether it's a bit of come down/ dehydration/ tiredness/ awkward sleeping?

Hi there,

I had this after a spinal, eventually it moved to my forehead and nose, horrible. An acupuncturist friend suggested caffeine would help, which it did a little. I also cut out paracetamol for a couple of days as I noticed it was worse when taking them. (I have a bit of sensitivity there anyway though)

Check out this page which explains it all including the caffeine tip. Good luck with your baby!

I was warned about it after my c-sections / hysterectomy but it didn't happen.

IIRC (and this may have been after my hysterectomy) the anaestheist said they can give you something for it if it gets really bad. Might not hurt to call the maternity ward / your GP to check.

That's brilliant!

Another tip I have when nothing else works is to sit with your hands cupped over your eyes, so that your can open them but not see any light at all. (takes some adjusting) then sit with your eyes open, but not having to focus as they're in the dark.

I find when all else fails or I haven't access to painkillers works it brings me relief, but you do look a bit silly for a few minutes. Dim the lights before you start so you're not blinded by light after though!

It sounds as if it is to do with the spinal anaesthetic; it usually takes a few weeks to go away but if it's really bad they should be able to sort it out in hospital by doing a blood patch.

As others have recommended caffeine should help, as should lying down.
