When did you inflate/ fill the pool?

DS2 was due yesterday. Been having tons of practice contractions for weeks but they've been coming a bit closer this evening.

Anyway, I don't think I'm in labour just yet but I'm stressing about the pool a bit. Total inflate/ fill time is over 2hrs but I can't set it up before we need it because it's going to be sat in the middle of the living room if I do. Our house is tiny and DS would have nowhere to play if the pool was up. I'm just worried it's all going to kick off and the pool won't be up in time.

I'm probably being irrational Grin but I need some reassurance that I'll know when labour has really started and get the pool sorted in time.

TIA.

i did it as soon as i knew i was definitely in labour

what pool do you have?
I had a la bassine and with ds3 we had it inflated and filled within about 35-40 mins. i just had time to get in before he was born lol

It's a birth pool in a box. Last labour was v long so I've no reason to believe this one will be quick. Need something to fret about though!

In both cases I (well DH) inflated and filled the pool when I was sure I was in established labour - the pool was ready about 10 hours before ds1 was born, about 20 minutes before ds2 was!

However there was no way ds2 was coming out until I was in that pool - I just needed the water.

I had a BPIB for one of my wb's - took about 10 mins to inflate and 30 to fill.

10 minutes? Wow. It says 15-30 minutes on the instructions. Maybe that's just worst case scenario.

Am feeler a bit calmer now, thank you.

What will you be using to inflate it?

hairymelons · 15/10/2010 11:17

We hired it- it came with an electric pump.

yes should be 10 mins. My last pool came with a fab pump and was up in 5mins :-)

It's actually really great for hubbys as they feel useful instead of a spare part.

Its good fun to do a trial run if you both fancy - then you can get in and wallow for a few hours too - bliss!!! I watched a dvd.

Happy birthing x

mungogerry · 15/10/2010 11:32

ps dd was in the pool watching the dvd too!

hairymelons · 15/10/2010 12:22

Don't have a spare liner unfortunately and DH not around to help me set up for a trial run (although will get here when I go into labour obviously!). A DVD in the pool sounds lovely though, and DS would be beside himself having a big bath downstairs!

If I remember correctly, we inflated it a few days before I went into labour but didn't fill it until I was in active labour. I think it was a couple of days after the 41 week mark (no one I knew of in my family had ever had a baby earlier than that so it seemed like a good time).

We had an electric pump and I'd double-checked the hose/tap fitting in advance so wasn't too worried about the filling bit.

Good luck!
