Stats on vbac. Do they change depending on why you had cs last time?

I'm only 12 weeks but saw consultant yesterday. He said hands of vbac is 75% which tbh seems optimistic as only 80% of our antenatal class had vb first time round.
I had emcs for failure to progress, op position and possibly as Ds was big and I'm small.

Where can I find stats on chances of vbac dependent on reasons for first emcs. Iyswim.

hmmm not sure where you can find out,I think Vbac.org talks about your chances of success for different reasons.

I know alot of people who had a successful Vbac but unfortunately I am not one of them.

I too had an EMCS for FTP and tried a Vbac in may but ended up with a section again for the same reason, although this time my baby WAS in the right position. So I think in my case I just don't dilate despite doing all the right things(wasn't on my back, didn't have CFM etc).

I think some of it is just luck!

But.....I don't regret trying it and my recovery the 2nd time was much faster and almost pain free.Plus the actual section was an amazing experience and I don't regret a thing.

It also made me see that an ELCS would be a fab experience too.But if I hadn't tried I would always wonder 'what if'.

I would say go for it if you have any hope that you'd like to give it a go.

Many people have an EMCS for FTP and go on to have a VBAC.

Can't get a link to work but if you google 'RCOG green top guideline for birth after previous caesarean section' you will find lots of stats.

Overall success for VBAC around 75%, my consultant has suggested for me more like 50-60% (big baby, less than 2 years since previous section, older mum, no previous vaginal delivery) so you could always ask what they think your personal chances are.

Jen that is an excellent link!
Loads to look at so will get my note pad out I think!

I'm not sure vbac is for me but feel that I should 'try to do it properly'.

The 12 week consultatnt appointment was pretty pointless as he listed the risks of elcs and gave me a leaflet and spouted off the stats of
75% success rate of vbac
0.5% change of uterine rupture
There was no discussion of my circumstances from first time- he didn't even have the notes!
