I have had a bit of a show tonight (I think!) and just now needed a wee, got to the loo and thought I wasn't going to get my jeans down in time (I did though!!) then had a wee, quite a lot and quite fast! There was a bit more of a show when I wiped. Could it have been my waters breaking? I have heard of lots of people thinking their waters have broken when actually they have weed themselves, so how do you know the difference? And it's too late to see how it smelt or looked because it didn't really occur to me until after I had flushed the chain so all evidence has gone!

My only concern really is that I have gbs and I have to go to the hospital as soon as labour starts or
my waters break to get antibiotics, what if they have broken and I am dismissing it as wee?! Would I have had no warning at all ie the fact that I needed a wee probably meant it was just wee right?! Did you feel different after your waters had broken?

Can you tell I'm a first timer?!?!?!

put on a pad and stroll around a bit - then check if your pad is damp. if your waters have gone they'll carry on trickling.

NoTeaForMe · 12/10/2010 23:21

Thanks eccentrica I have done that and the pad is dry so I guess it was just a good old fashioned wee!!

I'm sure it won't be long now though, NoTeaForMe - good luck!

Well.... When my waters broke it was a big gush and I KNEW it wasn't wee as it didn't smell (wasn't on the loo so was all over my clothes) and so off I went to hospital. They said that if it was my waters that they would go on trickling so they put a pad down and made me lie still then examined me after an hour and proclaimed it couldn't possibly have been my waters as the pad was dry - cue much patting me on the head, rolling eyes and 'you've wet yourself, dear'. A few hours later my contractions started and when I went back to hospital the midwife who examined me confirmed that my waters HAD gone (yes, I did tell you that about 6 hours ago...) so a dry pad is not necessarily definitive.

I think what happened to me was that the head engaged when my waters broke and plugged me up IYSWIM. If it is important for you to get treatment as soon as your waters go then you should go to the hospital.

I didn't feel any different after my waters went in physical terms - just very excited that DD was on her way!

Well nothing has happened since so clearly it wasn't my waters breaking on Tuesday! Am I safe to have sex then to force this baby out?! I think I did have a show in tuesday though!

Thanks

My waters didn't break until I was giving birth,so I don't know what it feels like and I'm sure I've heard stories of people who's waters have broken and they havent gone into labour. I'd get it checked out. I too have GBS and am a bit worried about getting the antibiotics on time, as my first labour was very quick. Good luck!

cardamomginger · 17/10/2010 12:48

I know that if your waters have gone, you shouldn't have sex as if increases the risk of infection. Not sure if that also applies to having a show. But if you have GBS, I would err on the side of caution and ring the MW to ask. Good luck!

homebirthmummy · 17/10/2010 13:44

rather than having full blow sex, why not suggest your DP give you the time of -your- life Wink, orgasm releases oxytocin (the hormone associated with contractions). no risk of infection and if it doesn't work, hey ho!!

mungogerry · 17/10/2010 13:59

Yes sex is fine as the baby is still sealed inside the bag

NoTeaForMe · 17/10/2010 14:08

So can I not presume that since I was slightly unsure on Tuesday and nothing has happened since that my waters didn't in fact break and I just had a wee?! Surely by now something would have happened, it's been 5 days?

I'd love to have the baby now, I'm only 3 days overdue and already bored of waiting. I'd feel ridiculous phoning the midwife and getting checked only to be told I'd had a wee. Especially as I have now left it so long!

Thanks

Waters refil and continue to leak, so it won't have been your waters from what you say.

Good luck with the birth, can't be long now (even though each day feels like a year when you hit due date)

Get yourself comfy, get halfway through a very good film while sitting on a very expensive sofa. Ensure your other half is tiddled so he cannot drive. Then your waters will go Grin
