Oh I hope not! She did well at BFing though so I'm hoping that's genetic.

I'm on number 1 and if that theory is true I'm screwed. I may as well plan my CS now.

My mum told me she chose the day of her induction to co-incide with her sister visiting from abroad Hmm.

Labour was 14 hours and her stitches fell out when she went to the loo on the ward.

I'm hoping mine isn't like that!

atmywitssend · 13/10/2010 22:49

Nonsense in my family. My mum virtually sneezed all three of us out, my brother in a corridor near the entrance to the hospital. 23 hours for me, forceps and 3rd degree tear.

edam · 13/10/2010 22:56

Not at all. My mother's labour with me was induction due to pre-eclampsia and old fashioned flat on your back in stirrups (and the midwives injected you to stop your milk coming in - only bolshie people who had read up on this beforehand were able to b/f). As a result she had my younger sister at home.

I had ds in a midwife-led unit, 9 hour labour, G&A, third degree tear.

One of my sisters had induction/epidural and a horrible tear thanks to baby having her fingernail out all the way down.

The other one had a 36 hour labour first time and a C-section second time.

EdgarAllInPink · 13/10/2010 22:56

mum spent a total of 8 hours in labour - 4 textbook VBs.

so far, i've spent 11 hours in labour -3 Textbook vbs.

so, i think there may be something in it. Though we adopted similar coping strategies too -walking to speed delivery, home birth etc.

I think nonsense...my Mum was in labour 48 hours with me (first and only child, she was 24. I was 39 when DD was born and had a 4 hour labour.

pinkclouds · 14/10/2010 22:16

My mum had extremely quick labours with me and my brother. No build up and hardly any contractions about 1hr with both of us.

I had 3 fast none painful labours 30 mins for the first (yes 30 mins!!). Was so quick was advised to have home births after that. Both the other DC were about 1hr hardly any pain.

My mums birth experiences meant I was fairly relaxed about my own Labours I think this helps[hmm.]

MoonUnitAlpha · 14/10/2010 22:59

I had really hoped this wasn't true - my mum had long labours ending in emergency c-sections. I planned a homebirth, ended up in hospital after a long labour, forceps delivery, just escaping a c-section by the skin of my teeth!

We both had very easy pregnancies though.

owlicecream · 15/10/2010 20:04

mum and mum's mum (and mum's sister) - all quick births, minimal tearing (or none), zero pain relief - same for me except my waters went early with DC1 and I needed a pessary to get going. DC2 nearly born in dad's car. I think there is something in it but just based on my experience!

JamieJay · 15/10/2010 20:13

Nope

My birth was an induction a week early (due to pre-eclamcia) with epidural, very long, failed to progress resulting in forceps and mum failed to breastfeed as I was very sleepy due to pethadine.

DD's birth was spontaneous 2 weeks overdue, progressed very quickly and involved no pain relief (got to hospital fully dilated and they wouldn't let me have the gas and air) and DD was a natural when it came to breastfeeding.

The only things we had in common were the fact we both had a 2nd degree tear (mine was internal and healed much quicker and better than mums) largely due to almost 9lbs babies!

Pregnancy was very different too - mum had serious morning sickness - lost 2 1/2 stone and ended up with pre-eclamcia. I pretty much sailed through aside from heartburn.

Fibilou · 15/10/2010 21:57

Mine was spookily similar to Mum's. I am an only child as is DD. Mum and I went into labour at similar times, were both sent away by the midwives and both of us had delivered within 8 hours of being told it was going to "take some time".

We both had short labours (about 6 hours), neither of us had any pain relief at all and are both of the "don't know what all the fuss is about" camp that were lucky enough to have very easy first labours Grin

Fibilou · 15/10/2010 21:59

"How about the saying "if you've had a good pregnancy you'll have a good labour" or vice versa?"

True for me, pregnancy and birth were a breeze for me, seems to be the thing I have found that I naturally excel at lol.

piscesmoon · 15/10/2010 22:12

Luckily not the same. My mother had difficulties and I had it easy.

LadyOfTheFlowers · 15/10/2010 22:14

My mother had reasonably straight forward natural births, as did I, grateful to say. :)

missytequila · 15/10/2010 22:19

my mum an I had EXACTLY the same labour. one week early, very intense, very fast (3 hours from when started to feel funny, 1.5 hour real labour) too fast to have anything but a natural delivery.

GruffaloSoldier · 17/10/2010 20:46

Total rubbish. My mum had three natural births, albeit with some complications. Me and my sister both had EMCS and my other sister a premature birth (32 weeks)which resulted in c - section.
