Help - huge first baby dillema!

Ever since my first scan, the hospital have been predicting a big baby (they run in my family) but had to have a scan at 34 to check for low placenta (fine) and the consultant told me that my son was already 6+lb and that he thought that I would end up with a whopping 12lb-er!!! Wants me to go back at 38 weeks with a view to either induction or c section. He wasn't very confident about the success of early induction and was obviously more keen on the c section. Much as I don't fancy attempting to bring an enormous whopper naturally (scared of huge tear, incontinence and never wanting sex again due to agony), I am a carer for my disabled husband, and don't really want to start off my life as a new mum crippled by major abdo surgery. Anyone got any pearls of wisdom?

Big babies are often easier to produce!!!
Do thay put on 1lb a week from now on? not sure!
I was told 8lb+ at 36 weeks and had him on due date weighing 10 2..not a stitch in sight!

Scans can be wrong.

My friend was told her baby would be HUGE - it was 8lb.

At the end of the day, it is YOUR body - if you don't want a c-section, then say no, if you don't want early induction, then say no. We are designed to birth all size and shape babies, you can do it.

Judging a baby's prospective weight from the scan is notoriously inaccurate.

Incidently my (5'4) BF had a 10lb+ baby and it was the only one she didn't end up having loads of stitches with. If you have a mw who manages the birth well, there is no reason to tear etc.

there are soooooo many people on here who will tell you how innacurate judging a baby's weight will be! seriously... don't listen to them! they can be sooooooo far wrong it's unbelievable.
i doubt very much that your baby will be putting on 6lb between now and its birth!

i am sure someone on here gave birth (or knows someone who gave birth) to an 11lb 13 baby NATURALLY!
