Using a sling after a c-section

I had a section last Monday. I was wondering it was realistic to consider using a sling to carry my daughter?

Thanks.

(should I post this in another section?)

I am planning on using one! Have just ordered 2 and am having a section on Thursday (seem to have posted that a lot today Blush). I'm hoping that I can manage a sling fairly quickly but havent tried with my previous two so no idea realistically.

I'm also on crutches which is part of my rational as otherwise I won't be able to move with baby if dh is out (Not going to be that often but I can't force him to stay in constantly!)

hi - i had a section last mon too and walked to local shops with dd in a sling today - was only out for about 20 mins though - have used it round the house too.

maybe just take it easy ?

I was using a Sleepy Wrap from 4 days post-section. Was incredibly comfortable and actually made me feel more supported and 'held-in' if that makes sense. I used a BabyBjorn first time round and found that to be much less comfortable - didn't have even weight distribution and was agony on my back.

With the wrap style sling it doesn't feel much different to being heavily pregnant - maybe more comfortable due to the more even weight distribution.

I had cs and used babybjorn from two weeks old. I am a big fan of it, but haven't tried others so nothing to compare it with.

I didn't like the babybjorn AT ALL - it really hurt my back and I didn't like the position of the baby. I have a Close sling, and used this from very early. I think the issue isn't so much about whether you can carry the baby as they should be held up by the sling so high that you can kiss the top of their head - it's more about how long you can stand after the c section - for me I could only manage short bouts of standing but had him in a sling sitting down a lot too. Very handy for keeping hold of him when relatives wanted to paw him a bit too much!

used babybjorn from about 2 weeks - but all the time as couldn't fit pushchair in car -fab!

I had a c section two years ago and asked specifically about slings in hospital, they said yes absolutely no problem, I used one (the wilkinet and then the Close) from the first day at home - it was a life saver because we have steep steps up to our door and I could never have got up and down them with a buggy and a baby after a c section. I felt that carrying my ds in the sling was better for me than just holding him as the weight was better distributed - we then started using a sling pretty well all the time, in the house and out. C section healed fine.
