31weeks - transverse lay - beginning to worry.

Am expecting DC3 in early Dec. DD is only 22mths so not long ago since I felt this stretched.
Last antenatal check baby was lying transverse (using my pelvic floor as hammock) and has shown no signs of moving into a more comfortable position (already awkward like his father).

Have heard terrible tales of breech births and intervention to turn babies presenting this way.

Should I be concerned or have faith that he will eventually do the right thing and get off my bladder.

Keep the faith. My DC3 lay transverse or diagonally until over 39 weeks, but got her head down at the last moment.

Early days yet. Fingers crossed.

It seems everyone has their horror stories to tell when you voice any concerns. They always know someone friend/daughter/sister who had terrible time etc.

Have been lucky with previous 2 DC, they were ready to go from about 20 wks.

dd1 was transverse for a long time, certainly up to around 36 weeks, but managaged to get head down for the birth. It's uncomfortable isn't it (she was a big baby too!) but there's every chance it'll turn before 40 weeks

MeelooMouloo · 02/10/2010 22:10

It's very uncomfortable, by far the worst of my three pregnancies. (I'm not a big fan of pregnancy tbh but the end product is worth all the crap)
Just hoping he moves sooner rather than later, feels like he's in my lap all the time.

Have rediscovered the joy of wearing lovely, comfortable leggings again though, first time since bout 1992 :)

dc2 was transverse until the day i was booked in for my section at 38 weeks :) he turned head down just before i was due to go to theatre! so the section was cancelled and he arrived 5 days late weighing 9lb 8.5! good luck!

MeelooMouloo · 02/10/2010 22:53

9 lb 8.5oz

Bloody hell! I've a feeling this one is going to be the biggest (DS1 8lb 4oz, DD 7lb 7oz) but I'm hoping he's not THAT big. Ooooh that's made me wince.

the funny thing was when i was scanned and realised he was breach they estimated his birth weight at 9lb 7oz and when i explained to everyone why i was going to be having a section they all replied 'its for the best your fanjo will never be the same after delivering him!' then i went on to have a vaginal delivery Blush.

but in all honesty it was no more painful than delivering dc3 who weighed 7lb 8oz! i didnt tear or need stitches it was just that labour was longer as his head took a long time to desend.

My first (DD) was transverse. My labour was induced 5 weeks early due to pre-eclampsia, and she was still transverse when they started the induction. The doctors did something called external cephalic variation (Might be called something else now, this was 12 years ago!), which was them 'turning' her from the outside. I was told if this didn't work, I'd need a c-section. Happily, they managed to turn her, she was born vaginally at 34+5 weighing 6lb12oz. I will say that I did have bruises left on my tummy from the force of them turning her, but it was worth it to not have to have a c-section. I don't know if they still do ECV, but if dc4 (am 24+6) is breech/transverse, as I suspect he is, I will be pushing for ECV as it worked so well. No pun intended!
