feeling like a failure before I even start!

Hi,
I am booked to be induced tomorrow. While I am not so much worried about the medical procedure, I am feeling really depressed that it has come to this. It's ridiculous, but I feel like a bit of a failure! I was wondering if anyone else felt like this, and if anyone had any advice or good stories that might help me get in a better frame of mind.
Thanks

Bless, poor you! You haven't failed atall, your baby just needs more time to get ready to come out!

How far along are you? Why are you booked on for induction?

Being overdue is so hard emotionally. Don't worry about having a wobble, tis so hard to stay positive . It'll be ok.

Thanks diggers. I will be 42 weeks on tuesday. I don't know why I am feeling so wobbly over feeling overdue, I am not normally like this (ie crying at EVERYTHING!!)

hi GKP
there are a lot of threads about this - about refusing induction and being monitored, about people saying induction is / isn't that bad. I was due to be induced at 40 +5 and refused (no one really questioned why, but I did have to go to the hospital as if I was going to be induced and then speak to the doctor and get rebooked and go every 3 days for monitoring. Expectant monitoring I think it is called).

Then I was going to be induced at 40+10 and of course I went into labour naturally that very day! The same as you I was crying and moaning and felt so confused - desperate to get the baby out and worried as to why she wouldnt come out and so on. But you must try not to feel depressed or worried or a failure - there is such pressure to have that natural delivery. Although I went into labour naturally I had anything but a natural birth. So I don't want to be doom and gloom but I would like to reassure you and say try and take things a day at a time, if you are not ready and you feel instinctively it's not right, don't do it. And if you have had enough of being preggers and go for induction, good luck, and hopefully other MNers will come forward with successful induction stories.

have you had a sweep? I had two and really felt like they got things moving, and they weren't so bad.

Loads of good info about going over here.

I was induced and it was just fine. Pessary, then onto drip and had my waters broken....didn't matter in the end, my daughter was here!!!!

No matter what happens your little one will be along soon and the actual labour itself will become a distant memory.

Good luck!!

I just wanted to give some support - I was desperate not to be induced at 42 weeks, but I did manage to buy myself a couple of extra days (didn't need them as it turned out).

Thing is, I don't understand why I was so against being induced, because I was so depressed about being so overdue.

You aren't a failure - its just that feeling inadequate is often part and parcel of parenting!

Talk to your midwife, and have a think about whether you are prepared to not be induced and be monitored instead. You still have choices.

Very best of luck Smile and fingers crossed for spontaneous labour tonight! Grin

I was induced for both of mine. I would have loved to feel the labour come on naturally, particularly second time. However, it wasn't to be. By the time I got to 42 weeks, I was desperate for it all to be over and done with. Unfortunately, if the baby wants to be late and stay where it is, there's not much you can do, so don't beat yourself up about it.

Hope it all goes well for you.

You're not a failure, you obviously just have a very comfortable uterus! You could go into labour tonight anyway, if not induction isn't the end of the world its just a way of getting that lovely baby out xx

Thanks for all your messages of support and advice. Feeling twingy now so keeping my fingers crossed, but also feeling more positive about an induction, if it comes to it.
