Hi,

Im really not sure if I should give the hospital a call....

I had a show this morning and it has been coming away all day (didnt realise there would be so much!) and since about 8.30 this morning I have been having regular pains in my lower back and sometimes it moves round to my tummy but mainly in my back.
It seemed to calm down this afternoon when I had a lie down but have just had a bath and they have started up again.
They are averaging about 5 mins apaert as they were this morning but they arent unbearable and are much the pain wise as they have been all day.

Should I call the maternity ward for advice? not sure what they will say??

tia

It could be, sounds like it, but have a read of this thread warm up labour by all means call the ward to let them know and good luck Smile

Maternity ward will tell you to take paracetamol, have a bath and see what happens.

If the pains lengthen, are regular (a few minutes apart) and becoming unbearable then you might want to go in.

There's no harm in ringing if you want advice.

How exciting.

Sounds like things are starting but it could be a while yet. Try and eat something if you possibly can. You'll need the energy. HOw many weeks are you?

Northernlurker · 23/09/2010 19:14

(but don't eat a three course meal - there's a good chance you'll throw it up)

MyHusbandTheArse · 23/09/2010 19:15

Mine were like for about 24 hours this until I was about 6cm, then they suddenly got very unbearable. Def give them a call, and good luck :)

thank you for all your replies!

I am 40+1. DP is just making dinner havent eaten much all day so looking forward to that!
Think I will give them a call, I know this stage could go on for ages so dont want to get all worked up just yet!

I think it's always best to give the ward a ring when you think something might be happening because then your name is 'on the board' IYKWIM

And they can advise

My own rule of thumb is that if you can talk/move/largely carry on as normal through a contraction then it is only V early labour. Still worth calling them though
