Ideas for a CD to play during c section?

Hi there,

Just wondering if anyone who had a CD playing during their C section could share what they chose and why?

I was thinking of just some classical stuff (not really into it but I suppose it is relaxing) but then I thought maybe I should get one of those relaxation CDs or something? It's my first time and I will be really scared.

Any tips?

Thanks

The First Cut is the Deepest?

C section done and dusted in about half an hour or so. I had the radio on and dd was born to the White Stripes playing Hotel Yorba live! Which was very nice.
To be honest I didn't even hear most of what was going on, its over so quickly.

Something you like.

I usually pick some fairly insipid pop song compilation if I'm put in charge of the CD player (anaesthetic perk) eg. classic love songs or one of the new woman compilation albums.

LW theatre recently had some whale music (a top 10 relaxing tracks compilation CD) which I played a few times but it was so dire that people kept asking us to turn it off!

Hospital CD collections are generally crap as any decent stuff invariably gets nicked so if you are fussy take your own.... I'd just go for something you like.

Personally I'd pick something like Simon & Garfunkel but that is the kind of music I like.

I'd ask the surgeon what he/she wanted to listen to, you don't want to irritate him/her with some tune he/she can't stand.

(Very proud of myself for being so non-sexist there)

Nah. Surgeons get no musical preferences.

Anaesthetists do ('cos we can change the tunes once they are scrubbed!)

I would go with the radio. DS was born by elc to Suddenly I See by KT Tunstal. I would never have chosen that but now 5 years later when I hear it, it's her song : )

Radio here too, DD was born to Your Georgeous by Baby Bird, not the song I would have chosen but it was very fitting Grin

Didn't get to hear the music much tbh, the surgeon mainly talked about the weather :)

Take your own compilation. If you put it together just right you can time it and almost be in control of what your baby is born to (if you have that need - I do being a total control freak). DD1 was born to Beautiful Day by the Levellers. The rest of the music on the compilation was mine and DHs favourite music. Reallly enjoyed it. Just put together next compilation for next weeks ELCS.

Depends on whether or not you think you need relaxing at the time! If you do, then either do your own compilation or pick something like one of Classic FM's Relax compilations. I used to do therapeutic massage, and had a stash of relaxation music - very quickly went off any new-agey stuff, or Enya-type (in fact anything with words) and reverted to the classical compilations - best for "drifting off".

Love the songs of the moment "Suddenly I see" and "You're Gorgeous" - very fitting!

Radio for me too. Angels by Robbie Williams was playing when I was having the spinal but I have no idea what was playing when he was actually hauled out - I was just so glad he was alive :)

Anything by The Knife.

ninedragons, have you seen this thread?

If I'd had a c-section I was going to go for Motorhead's Ace of Spades just for the fabulous intro. Pink Floyd's Comfortably Numb? Grin
