Nipple stimulation
Starlightmackenzie keeps recommending reading erotic fiction on the toilet Grin
Bouncing on the birthing ball

When are you due?

EmmaKateWH · 18/09/2010 15:27

I was going to start the same thread myself.
I have tried sex, curry, pineapple, am taking raspberry leaf tea, have tried nipple stimulation, am not taking castor oil, have bounced extensively on ball. What else can I try?
Have acupuncture booked for tomorrow.
Am not overdue yet but being threatened with induction because of big baby, which I know I can refuse, but would really just like to get the baby out asap!
Any other ideas?

nattiecake · 18/09/2010 16:21

I'm 38 weeks now, but hes measuring big too so I'd like him out asap. Hes been engaged for about 8 weeks, so surely he wont be long now anyway. And I have been convinced that by my dates he should be here nearly a week earlier than my official EDD.

I've been half trying nipple stimulation, but i milk everywhere whenever i so much as brush my boobs!! And I'm already drinking raspberry leaf tea and taking evening primrose oil...

Erotic literature on the toilet? Grin intriguing, I'll give that one a go!!

Nothing works. You're better off trying to take your mind off it (I know how hard that is) and accepting that your body knows when your baby is ready to be born. The beginning of labour is a little understood chemical/hormonal reaction in your body that you really don't want to happen before the time your body and baby tells you is the right one.

And I know that's not what you want to hear but you'd be better off reading/having a bath/drinking tea/watching a film and accepting that it will happen soon and nothing you can do will change the timing of it.

Bumperlicious · 18/09/2010 16:29

You can put evening primrose oil inside too, when you go to bed, it will just dissolve (apparently).

nattiecake · 18/09/2010 16:52

Lol, RFP re taking my mind off it, maybe the sods law way would get it started, if i stripped the wallpaper in my bedroom or something :)

What worked for me and also a friend is sex followed by a couple of miles brisk walking

RaisedFromPerdition · 18/09/2010 16:59

What worked for me was eating food and sitting on the sofa.

ThatDamnDog · 18/09/2010 17:01

Everyone always says to be sure and plan loads of stuff - lunch dates, nice night out with your other half, haircut. Then at least you've not wasted the time if baby doesn't appear!

I'm in the same boat (39 weeks and really want to avoid going overdue as hoping for VBAC) and I'm just trying to enjoy the last time DS will have as an only child and making the most of my sleep. If this is your first, I'd strongly recommend the latter Grin

I'm starting to agree with you actually starlight. Completely understandable if you are getting to 2 weeks over and trying to avoid induction, but I think for the most part the baby will come when it's ready. And I will say this as someone who loathes being pg and is desperately uncomfortable!

I think the things like raspberry leaf tea and EPO is that they do good stuff to your uterus but neither actually bring on labour I don't think.

Bumperlicious · 18/09/2010 18:51

I'm mostly using the sitting around doing nothing method. Am feeling to grouchy and anxious to socialise, too much like I have a bowling ball between my legs to get up and down off the sofa or in and out of the car, and too tired to walk. I am making a concerted effort to keep my energy levels ready for labour with cheesecake, chocolate etc. Grin

Plan something really really important, the baby will find the oppurtunity to interupt impossible to resist.

My friend did this; she planned a birthday party at a restaurant for her Mum near her due date. Her waters broke as she crossed the car park to go into the restaurant.

Otherwise lots of walking and hot baths.
