Easy pregnancy = easy birth... or is that wishful thinking?

Hey all

I've soared through my pregnancy so far (29 weeks), with only a couple of days of mild morning sickness, all tests and scans fine, plenty of energy and just the odd day of complete knackerdness.

I'm hoping that this nice, easy ride will continue through to the birth, and the little chap will just slip out nice and simple.

Would those of you who had an easy pregnancy confirm that the birth was less traumatic than you were expecting, and those who had a troubled pregnancy also had a troubled birth?

Well I had a lovely easy pregnancy, lovely quick birth - then the first few weeks from hell!

I put my good birth down to being calm and relaxed but this did not translate to dealing with a screaming newborn!

Agree with the poster who said you probably get 1 or 2 out of 3 - but not all 3!

I had an easy pg and a relatively easy birth, very relaxed labour but I felt really awful after I had my baby, I hadn't eaten for about 8 hrs, it was after midnight and I really felt abandoned by the mw etc once my dd was safely delivered, so even a relatively easy birth can be quite shocking - be prepared, as much as you can and I would recommend that you have some high energy snacks and something to drink etc available.

My dh and the mw got a break when I was in labour, they both went to the canteen whilst I was in the birth pool, I wasn't allowed anything in case I needed a CS. When I had dd tea and toast was brought in and my dh ate it whilst I was having a shower!!!! I think everyone assumed because I had an easy birth that I was fine, I could hardly speak I was so exhausted. I had to ask them to lift my dd off me because I couldn't hold her.

I am thankful I have a healthy dd, but the whole hospital experience was pretty unpleasant/impersonal - I know that might not happen for you, but if I had known it could be like that I would at least have been mentally prepared! I was very engorged, have huge norks anyway but it made it very difficult to feed my dd, there always seemed to be a different mw in trying a different angle to get my dd to latch on. I also had some incredibly insensitive comments from an auxiliary and the baby blues set in too - I decided to have an hb with my ds because I wanted to avoid the hospital experience.

I hope you do have an easy birth and feel looked after by the mw/hospital when you have your baby.

I think it is hard to be prepared for something you have never done before!

I had two great pregnancies but the births, well, they were tough. Sorry!

Another one with lovely pg, no sickness, no scares, no nothing. Then very long latent labour, stuck baby, assisted delivery and then, to top it off, retained products! Great. You will be fine though, I am sure. :)

Ah, I knew it couldn't be so simple. I will enter into it with as positive an attitude as I can though...

Wishing simple pregnancies and births on everyone.

Well I had a wonderful pregnancy with absolutely no problems other than indigestion and went on to have a wonderful easy labour, 6 hours from start to finish and just g&a and water for pain relief. Was no where near as bad as I expected and was the best experience of my life. I know I was very lucky, but you could well be one of the lucky ones! Good luck!

Same here for both dcs really. Ist time plenty of heartburn and SPD, birth not too bad considering it was in hospital. 2nd time less heartburn, less SPD and a lovely easy homebirth.

I had a lovely, chilled textbook pregnancy. 3 days before birth m/w told me that the baby would be between 6 and half to 7lbs, was in a fantastic position and that my strong stomach musles would lead to an easy birth - she was right about the weight!!
