Hello, I have found out that my baby has shown no signs of growth since 28 weeks, I am 36 weeks now and mw's have only just started sorting it out. I have been referred to the consultant and they have said they will possibly induce me early, the man did not tell me what was poss wrong after he had scanned me, i have another consultant appointment on weds where they are going to tell me the plan of care. Has anyone been through this and be able to tell me what to expect please.

Inductions frequently end in c sections anyhow so I would push for good reasons not to go straight to cs.

Thank you milly and fattyarbuckel

I will def try and push for the c-section, ive hard emcs are sometimes worse than elective.

If they think your baby is 4lb 10oz, there must have been growth since 28 weeks. I had a growth scan at 35 weeks and she was estimated to be 4lb 7oz and they were happy with that weight.
Wednesday does seem really far away. Try not to get too worried but be prepared not to come out straight away so make sure your bag's packed and your DP has plenty of time available. Get him to let work know he might not be back for a few days.
Taking a list of questions is a really good idea, I always forget things I wanted to ask even at routine appointments.
I'm keeping my fingers crossed for you that all goes well.

Contractions help prepare baby for the outside world, so that is one reason why a trial of labour followed by emcs might be better for the baby than going straight for an elective. Electives give baby no warning, so more of a shock for them I guess! Also for a first-time mum who might want to try for vaginal birth next time, at least they will have some experience of what labour is like, which will help next time.

Presume you've seen small for dates on the homebirth reference site...

smilehomebirth I can understand your point and i guess that does make sense, this is my 2nd dc though and i gave birth naturally the first time and it was quite traumatic with a 2nd degree tear as the icing on the cake.

I have been really quite dizzy today and yesterday aswell, could that have anything to do with IUGR? I dont want to be getting daft!

Ask your consultant how likely it is that having had an induction you will end up having a c section...if the likelihood is high then it will be hard for him to refuse.

Good luck, and rest up if you have felt rubbish today, I expect you are not getting much rest as have another child to take care of?

Not much rest at all, ds seems to of turned into a little devil in the last 2 days bless him, i think he can sense something is going on, I will add your point to my questions, ive wrote down everything so far so feel almost ready for weds :)

Hi!
I had early inductions(2.5 weeks early)both with ds2 and ds3 as they werent growing anymore.in both cases my cervix was still completely closed prior induction, but labour was quick anyway. with ds2 i had the gel, with ds3 the oral tablets. both babies were perfectly healthy, just quite small. i hope all goes well for you!
