Has my water broken?

Hello, am a little bit confused. I was woken up last night as I felt that my PJ's were wet, they were in fact very wet and I felt some water trickle out of me on and off all night. It wasn't a gush at all so didn't think it was my waters. The fluid has a very light blood colour tinge to it, it doesn't smell at all.

I also think I have had a show-blood tinged discharge when I go to the toilet.

I called my midwife and she said it sounded like I had a show and to keep an eye on the fluid loss. No fluid since I have got up....should I get this checked out or just wait at home?

I think Id get it checked given that you leaked on and off all night and it was blood tinged.

How many weeks are you?

Hiya, congratulations..I think you'll be in labour soon Grin. My waters just tricked for ages and ages and never 'gushed' also the blood-tinged discharge sounds like a show too. Just wait at home, your contractions might start in the next hour or so...good luck! x

oh, meant to say, the light blood tinge to your waters could be meconium, did you tell your midwife the colour of the fluid?

boots28 · 11/09/2010 10:18

Hello,

Thanks for the replies. I am 39 weeks pregnant. I did tell my midwife about the colour of the waters and she didn't seem overly concerned.

So it could be my waters then?

Sounds like it! Put a sanitary towel on. Mine was a trickle, not a gush, not until about an hour before I delivered.

Good luck!

I'm surprised you midwife didn't want you to go in and confirm if it was your waters that have gone. We check everyone who queries fluid loss. And we now induce after 24 hours.

The blood tinge is fine - green or yellowy/brown could indicate mec.

Agree with sirboob put on a maternity pad, if you still think your leaking phone the midwife back.

If you are over 37 weeks then you can stay st home, when your waters break its not always a gush it is some time a slow trickle. It sounds lit the fluid you on you pj is your waters. Its safe for you to be at home after your waters have broken for 24 hours then If labour had not started i would get it checked out.
If you are before 37 weeks then you need to get it check straight away really.
