Bulging Disk at the bottom of my back... Will it mean no spinal?

I have ages to get myself worked up about it yet. I am only just touching 18 weeks.

I have had one emsc and one elsc and have already decided on elsc this time round.

Now I am worrying they wont be able to do epidural or spinal block so I can be awake when baby is born because of my bulging disk. I had it before I got pregnant and went to physio, but the last two days it seems to be returning.

With the emcs I had a horrific experience afterwards, granted i had pr-eclampsia, but I had GA and didnt wake up for ten days and they told me I had a mini stroke.

Wtih elcs it was such a lovely experience. I was awake for the whole thing and was home after 2 days, both DH and I got to watch our son being born and I want that again.

I am not seeing cons until 21 weeks and will ask him then.

honestly got no idea but are you sure the disk and the spinal are the same site?
can you get the disk 'fixed' before your due date with more physio?

i'd ask the physio what they think as they must know the implications of your condition and should know where a spinal goes in.

FWIW i don't think my spinal was at the base of my back - more like just above waist height. but then i was quite drugged up by then...

Alot will depend on the level that the disc bulge is at but it shouldn't stop you having a spinal.

You need to ask to be referred to see a consultant anaesthetist ante-natally. Every hospital should have a clinic for people with potential anaesthetic problems to speak with a consultant anaesthetist to discuss such issues

As Splatt says - see a consultant. Which disc is it?

(I had an epidural (DC1) and a spinal (DC2) when I have 2 prolapsed discs and another missing (all around the injection points) - they just move the site but they do need to assess it and know about it beforehand. FWIW the epidural did not provide full pain relief because of the disc problems (hence the spinal for a cs).)
