3cm dilated without noticing - is this A Good Sign?

40+8, just had sweep at ANC half an hour ago, MW surprised I have had no outward symptoms of impending labour - no low back pain, no period type pain, no uncomfortableness. Should I consider myself lucky? And how long is a piece of string soon can I reasonably expect to start labour? Would be nice to have baby this weekend Smile

Good luck!
I was having the worst labour pains for 3 days before I went to the hospital. They did an internal and said I wasn't in labour Blush
By the time I was 4cm, I thought I was going to die, so from my pov, you're doing great!
Keeping my fingers crossed for you x

It's a good sign. Your body is doing what it is designed to do. It does not have to be uncomfortable. I hope you have a beautiful birth.

PomPotty · 10/09/2010 13:12

It's got to be a good sign .... 3 down 7 to go - good luck Grin
If I were you I'd get as much zzzzz as possible while you still can!

I got to 5cm with no pain with Dd1 and she was born 2 hours later :)

Booked for induction next thurs, MW doesnt think it will get to that so fingers crossed. Will end up on busy old labour ward if so as opposed to lovely brand new spa-like MLU on the floor below if its natural.

Wow!! lucky you!!! :D I was 8cm on my first exam and beforehand the midwife told me I wasnt having "real contractions" so not to expect much..... she was rather surprised!!! hehe

I was muttering "not real contractions, my arse!!!" under my breath from then on during the rest of the labour! It did get more painful later on though.... sorry!!! :P

ethelina · 10/09/2010 14:11

Dont worry you'll be fine... TAKE THE DRUGS!!! bad thing with being 8cm was it was too late for all that malarky!! Was almost a home birth too tee hee.

Good luck!!!

Good luck Ethelina! My advice (you don't have to take it) would be to get yourself to the birthing centre as soon as anything starts as it sounds like things could progress rapidly! Good luck it sounds like you'll soon have your baby!

ethelina · 10/09/2010 16:35

Oh I hope so. Thanks. Smile

Any news? Hope all is well and/or going smoothly...

ethelina · 12/09/2010 12:14

Proud to announce son Sebastien born 5am sat 11th after a 6 hour labour Grin. Contractions went really quickly from every 10 mins to every 2 mins so journey to hosp was frantic but all good in the end. Home now.

Is it normally too late at 8cms? I got to 8cms with nothing, then for various reasons ended up with G&A, pethidine and an epidural?!

ethelina · 13/09/2010 13:19

i was 7cm on arrival at hospital, had nothing before that. G&A brilliant, had pethidine as well later on (was between 8 & 10cm) but dont remember it had much effect. Dont remember much about it really except being told off for using too much. No epidural needed thank goodness. Think I was probably too late for that anyway.
