Has anyone been assured of a c-section before conception?

Hi

Has anyone had experience of being unable to consider becoming pregnant with another child after having Birth Trauma and a baby with birth injury.

Part of me believes that the only way would be have the agreement of a choice of c-section prior to concieving.

Has anyone done this? If so can you explain how you went about this and any experiences you had.

Many Thanks

After going to see my GP and explaining my concerns/worries I was offered an appointment to see the consultant before ttc because of my birth trauma with my DD. I declined as it was promised that I could see him soon after I was pregnant instead. In the end I did not see him until I was 23 wks pregnant with DC2, but when I did I was told I could have a c-sec if I wanted one (although I was advised against it).

If you are worried, I would go to see your GP and ask to be refered to talk to a consultant. Hopefully they will let you talk to one before you ttc. You will need to be pushy though.

Yes. I saw my consultant for a review 2 months after DD's traumatic and damaging forceps birth. I was clearly still very upset and he said then that he would agree to an elcs for a future birth if I wanted one, though he also thought another baby was unlikely to get stuck head engaged sideways as DD had.

He followed up that meeting with a letter which also stated his support for an elcs if I wished one in the future.

I clung to that letter through the following 10 months of physio, further gynae and urogynae intervention and treatment.

It gave me great peace of mind when we started to try for our second child. I had my elcs as promised in June and 12 weeks on now I am delighted that DS's birth went so well.

Me too - consultant suggested elective CS for any subsequent dcs at my 6 week pn check-up after dc1. He also suggested at least an 18 month gap so I wouldn't have to pick up dc1 with CS stitches as she'd probably be walking by then.

I saw a consultant obs when dd was 3 as he specialised in birth trauma and I was still having nightmares and flashbacks.

He talked to me for several hours and offered there and then to be my named consultant should I ever have another. He said immediately that if I want an elcs then he would agree to it from the very beginning and whatever happened, would deliver the baby himself (on shift or not, he'd come in especially). He was lovely and explained at a subsequent meeting that his dw had a traumatic labour and delivery that was almost identical to mine and if he could help me to have a better second labour and delivery then he would.

I had a traumatic forceps shoulder dystocia delivery with DS. Saw a consultant at 9 weeks and was given the option of an ELCS then.
The consultant was very aware that although DS was fine he may not have been.

DD was born by ELCS 7 weeks ago and it was a great esperience. I recovered well and was back on my feet very quickly. I wasn't traumatised by it and my baby is very settled.
If you have had a traumatic delivery and put your case to them they should agree to it.

No but I'm going for a pre-conception apt Hmm with a consultant soon for this very reason and I'm hoping that they will agree to an elc as this is the only way I will consider having another.
I want to make sure I have it in writing before ttc!

I was promised at my 6 week post natal check up that I could have a CS next time, and it was written on my notes. i'm now 10 weeks and waiting to speak to MW properly about it so I can confirm that there's no problems, but I'm not anticipating any.

I also had a shoulder dystocia birth. It was written in my notes that an elcs should be given for subsequent pgs. When I went to my booking in appt and was ask which hospital I wanted I gave hospital name and also the name of the consultant i wanted to see- this ensured i saw the consultant at my 12 week scan appt. She reviewed my notes with me and said a elcs would berth most sensible option given my history - and she booked me in there and then (which was a bit weird) so 3rd feb here I come!!

With my son I had a premature placental abruption, then 4th degree tear and surgery. I was told at all the postbirth consultant appointments that they would recommend an early section next time. This was a big factor in deciding to try again!

Now 25 wks pregnant with baby no 2, and had been worried as I had nothing in writing. However, the consultants have said they still recommend a section, though they also said if I insist on trying the other route they will try to accommodate me, as long as I know the risks. I was pleased as they had obviously considered the evidence but also my experience. And if I had wanted to change my mind (I don't!) they were open to it but left it to me to make a grown up dcision. I've felt well listened to, so hope you have the same experience.

Thank you so much for all your information. Will definately see if I can see a consultant prior to ttc. Chocolatefroggie, I would be interested to know how you get on?

will keep you posted poppy, haven't had the appointment date through yet but they said it would probably be this month.
It was actually birth afterthoughts who set up this appt for me as they could see how I felt about the last time Confused
