Hello!
I am pregnant with twins, and I am booked at Queen Elizabeth Hospital (in Woolwich). I tried to find some reviews about this hospital and most of them turned out to be negative... Girls, help! Is there anybody who gave birth to twins (and not only to twins) at Queen Elizabeth Hospital? I am very nervous and would be very glad to hear ANYTHING about it.

Hi Kate, I had my DS1 at Queen Elizabeth in 2003. It was absolutely fine. I was very lucky as I went in at 7am, just before the shift change and had the same midwife from 8am through to delivering at just before 4pm. She was great. The birth was straightforward, I just had gas and air and had the birthing pool (room 10 I think) to labour in although had to get out when I went a bit doolally.

The aftercare not so wonderful as I was in a 4 bed ward and the woman next to me sang all night. But I don't think anything different to what my sils had at L&D in Dunstable.

If you're really worried and can afford it, have you thought about a doula or an independent midwife? I had an independent midwife (who used to be in the Meridien midwives team) for DS2 at home because I realised how important continuity of care was with the birth of DS1 and wanted to guarantee that would happen again.

Good luck with everything, though.

Most of my NCT group had their babies at QE and most of those had good experiences. My friend had both her daughters there and praises the staff to the skies - they identified a very rare problem with her dd2 and acted immediately to ensure she did not fall ill, and the aftercare has been superb.

I was supposed to have ds1 there but when it came to the crucial moment they were full so he ended up being born at Queen Mary's in Sidcup - we arrived only just in time! This was 4 years ago but back then it happened quite a bit (them closing the ward). So, just check on what hospital you would be sent to if they were closed, so you won't have to navigate to somewhere you have never been to before while in transition, like I did Grin.
