ECV or C-SECTION - HELP!!!

Hi all. Just got back from the hospital and have been told that baby is still breech and I'll either have to have an ECV or a C-Section. I've got to go back to see the consultant tomorrow with a decision pretty much made as I'm 37 weeks. So, my question is - what would you do? This is my first baby and this is all a bit daunting! Mucho thanks in advance!

I'd go for the c section, but only you can make that decision. I'm in a similar position, i've a consultants appointment next Friday by which time I'll be 36 weeks to check if my babies still breech. If she is I've already decided to opt for a c section having read up on ECV I don't think it's the right choice for me. I think you need to read everything you can on both so you can make an informed decision. Really hard I know and especially tough when this is your first baby. Good luck

If you want to be able to attempt vaginal delivery, go for ECV. It is a safe and effective procedure as long as it is done properly and gives you the chance to have a completely normal delivery. I think it depends on your attitude to c-section really - I'd rather avoid one if possible, you may feel differently .

ECV, every time. There's plenty of time for the caesarean afterwards if the ECV doesn't work.

I had one with dd2 (3rd preg) and it was fine uncomfortable, but by no means agony. Worth finding out how experienced your unit is at doing them mine (big London teaching hospital) were doing 2 a week, and reckoned the last time they'd had to do an emergency C-section as a result was about 4 or 5 years ago. Pretty good odds to me.

Ignore all the old wives tales about the baby turning back again apparently that's really rare. Be warned, though ECV is more likely to be successful in 2nd and subsequent pregnancies (because muscle tone is shot to hell!). But def. worth a go.

I've had an ECV and it was fine. I'd go for this before an C-section. C section is a major opp and although perfectly ok is best avoided if poss.

I've actually spoken to five people who had ECV and in four cases the babies turned back round and a c section was necessary anyway! Maybe they were all just unlucky!

I tried ECV with dd, it didn't work for us but I wanted to at least try. As frogs said, it was uncomfortable but not painful. Depends on your preference for the birth - if you're very keen for vaginal birth or if you're happy to go with caesarian without trying.
My caesarian was fine and recovery far better than I had expected, but I am glad I at least tried ECV.
