High BP duing C Section with spinal anasthesia

Hi I was just wondering if anyone else has had a similar experience? With my second c/section (an elective) I had a spinal (had GA with first). I was in labour as baby didn't want to wait for scheduled surgery the following day! I had no bp problems prior to the surgery but a few minutes after the spinal was done my BP went sky high and I had a severe headache (monitors beeping, staff running round etc)and the surgeon said to put me on magnesium sulphate (WHich I know they use to prevent eclamptic fits in women with pre eclampsia). My Bp went back to normal within 12 after delivery but they did keep me flat on my back for the 12 hours (fun trying to b/f a newborn flat on your back!). I am just wondering if it was preeclampsia or a reaction to the spinal? Anyone else have any similar experience?

#i know epidurals usually lower bp, which is why i was keen to have one when i had pre eclampsia. if it was pre eclampsia, then you would have had protein in your wee as well - they might have tested it? I would phone for appt with consultant to go over birth and ask them.

I'd ask for a review as the PP suggested. Afaik, low bp is a common side effect of spinals, not high, although they can induce fits in women with PE.

It would be good for you to know from the doc either way, as it could affect future pregnancies or if you need a spinal for any other reason in the future.
