Hi,

I'm expecting my 2nd and am worried about the birth so wondered if anyone could share some experience or advice that would help me make up my mind.
My DD was c-section for failure to progresss, I had cholestasis so was induced at 38 weeks and she just wasn't ready to be born, not a great experience, 3 days of prostin and one midwife contraidcting another so not really looking forward to the same again.
I've been told that if I have it again I'll be induced at 38 weeks again but can try for a natural birth by way of cervic dilator balloon, my consultant was really positive but then I saw the registrar the other day who said its only likely to be 50% chance of it working and if it does I'll have to go 1cm per hour or they'll c-sec me again and tat becasue of previous section I'll be monitored constantly, its left me really scared as I think I'll just be strapped to a bed with a big ticking clock at the end of the bed, I'd hoped to be able to be as active as possible to try and get the babies head down etc and if possible use the birth pool, I'm that worried I'm thinking of going for an elective c-sec instead but really don't want to do this, recovery was hard and I'm alone a lot and my DD is only 14 months
Does anyone have more positive experience and do I have to be monitored or should I be able to reequest doppler unless they pick up a problem?
If I don't have OC then they'll let me go to 10 days overdue before induction but again stated that I'll be continually monitored, I had monitores with DD and fund then incredibly restrictive

Remember that you have to consent to everything they want to do.

Remember also that there is often a very good reason as to why they want to do a certain procedure; why not research the evidence base behind it?

I'm trying for a vbac. I'll be 'happy' for the constant monitoring, but I will not lie on the bed. I have been told I can be upright and mobile, within the confines of the lengths of the wires!

You have to consent to the csection, so if they are trying to hurry you (and there is no other reason for cs) say no.

Ok thats good Moonstorm thanks, I didn't realise I could refuse a section and I don't mind being monitored if I can move around, just wen I had DD I had to stay on the bed for monitoring pre birth and sometimes I'd be desperate for the loo and would be buzzing them for 30 mins before anyone would come to unhook me, the idea of that in labour terrifies me!
