When is a quiet month for Kingston Hospital maternity units?

Hi,

I am currently 15 weeks pregnant and baby will be due in Februrary.

I have heard all these horror stories of women being turned away at labour. I wonder whether there is a quiet/busy month to give birth?

Anyone has given birth in Kingston Hospital and how busy was it?

Many Thanks!

I gave birth at Kingston in 2009. Don't know about a quiet month, but midwife told me September was particularly busy because apparently quite a few people plan (insofar as you can plan) a September birth so that their DCs are the eldest in their school year. Can't quite believe people think ahead that far at the conception phase! I gave birth in June, which was busy (I had to wait to get into a labour room) but not ridiculously so; don't know anyone who has been turned away from Kingston.

I gave birth at kingston in April 2008 - busy busy busy but at least I wasn't turned away! Due again in october. What happens if you're turned away??! Suppose you go to the next nearest??!! eek.

gave birth in feb 2006 & aug 2008. no problems. it was full but they didn't turn me away. they did say that as i wasn't in established labour i should go home. had dd2 2 hours later Hmm

I think they are quite (overly?) keen on telling people to go home if they don't think they're in established labour. This happened to an ante-natal classmate but she managed to convince them to let her stay (pacing the corridors) and was in established labour an hour later. I think it pays to be assertive (ie insist on examination to see how dilated you are etc).

The night my DD was born, people were turned away (21/6/09). I guess they were sent to nearest unit?? Would be gutting and pretty stressful.

Yes, I also think it pays to be assertive. If you say you aren't going anywhere surely they wont let you give birth in a hall? Kingston Hosp is massive...
