is there anyone who got out and laboured on all fours out of the pool so that the mw could observe better and help at the crowning stage to prevent any tears?

is it really hard to get out when baby gets low down and is ready to come out?

thanks

I don't think I could have moved to get out of the pool towards the end.

why do you think you would need to get out?

There is no way on earth they would have got me out of the pool at that stage!

lurcherlover · 16/08/2010 20:09

At my hospital it is policy for you to get out when you're ready to start pushing. This seems to defeat the point a bit to me!

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 16/08/2010 20:10

They'd have problems with me then - I only pushed after the head was out! Grin

Can't you just refuse to move. I would have killed anyone who tried to make me get out (or took the G&A) away.

There is NO WAY on the planet I could have moved anywhere whilst actually delivering the baby. And with 2 out of my 3 vaginal births there was no transition stage - just one contraction delivered a baby - so I would have not known when to get out anyway.

But I would not, and could not have been able to get out. And if the house was on fire and I had to try then I am 100% sure that standing to lift my leg over would have resulted in the baby being delivered at that point as this act open the pelvis fully. (And water babies who ever have sticky shoulders are often dislogded just by mum stepping out of the pool)

I stayed in with all 3 water births after the birth until I felt the cord moving on my leg, which meant the placenta was detatching in time. On 2 of these occassions I told the mw and stood up and it slipped out immediately.

My Sister hated the pool and got out minutes atfer she got in. She was much more comfortable squatting leaning on the low bed.

There's a baby in your fanjo ffs, you're not going anywhere Grin

hospital policy is just that hospital policy

stay at home, hire your own pool, follow your own policy.

If the midwife is good, she'll know by other signs that you're close to pushing. Her being able to see won't make the baby come faster or better.

I've had 3 HWB and have never entertained getting out of the pool!!

AND the water acts as a very effective pain reliever, which will lessen your body's production of endorphins, WHICH will mean if you did get out of the pool at that point, the pain would be HELL ON EARTH!!!
