Nappies and maternity pads - how many?

Hi all

Am making a list (and checking it lots! Grin ) for my hospital bag - am only 31 weeks but ridiculously anal when it comes to planning. Can anyone enlighten me on the number of nappies and pads I'll need to take in with me? Obv it will depend on if I need to stay in for any reason, but for the average hospital stay, is the following enough?

12 x mat pads
10 x nappies

First timer and I honestly don't know if I'm being horribly over-optimistic or over-packing! Thanks in advance for the advice!

(Sorry for the repetition - I'm sure there have been hundreds of threads on this subject! Grin )

I was in for ELCS. Knew I would be kept in for at least 3 days.

I took 20 pads and 18 nappies. Hospital do supply pads but they are not as good as boots own maternity imo.

You will get through more nappies than you would believe...

And I'd go for Always over "maternity pads" any time. The wings are particularly great in the early days.

A packet of each, with more at home which can be brought in if you need them??

I would pack more than 12 pads. In the first few hours after delivery I was wearing 2 together! Plus you don't know how long you'll be in....it's better to be prepared.
I think i just took a small newborn pack of nappies in.

Thanks folks! Will aim for 2 packs of pads and one pack of nappies and hope I can squash them into the duffel bag!

Just to add my little bit - I had Boots mat pads and Kotex night - found Kotex by far the best (softer etc) but admittedly I didn't bleed that much - only wore them for the first 7-10 days when it was all a bit swollen down there (something I hadn't really thought about!) Then swapped over to always etc as didn't want to walk around feeling like I had a nappy in my pants Grin.

Took a whole 28 (carry pack or something) of pampers new baby nappies. I had to stay 2 nights due to BF probs but c-section would mean a longer stay. Obv your husband can buy extra nappies if need be but I am also rather anal and preferred to make sure I had enough as not sure what my husband would have come back with had I sent him out to buy them! Good luck..

I've got 20 maternity pads and 12 or 15 nappies - can't remember exactly as packed bag 5 weeks ago!

I have though put another few packs of maternity pads and a carry pack of nappies in the boot of the car with extra clothes etc. so DH only has to swap bags if I end up staying longer.

Now if baby would just turn up so I can use them (41 weeks and a little fed up!!)

Oh - forgot to say - I took 2 x 12 packs of mat pads. Probs got through a pack and a half in the 2 days I was in hospital - changed my pad every time I went to the loo though as it ust made me feel a bit nicer!
