eldon, i dont know why i'm worried.

last three births have been straightforward and easy, maybe i think i'm chancing it all for #5.

what if it goes wrong, what if i need a transfer, who will have the girls etc etc.

all the ame worries as last time, buit hormones getting the better of me

I felt like his with DC5. I was determined to have my HB but I was scared. I thought I was pushing it too.

It was all fine, bit stop and starty, it hurt but it was text book and all present were delighted.

Congratulations and good luck

i am less than 5 mins away from the hospital.

when we last called an ambulance out for dd4, my dad phoned a few seconds after i dialed 999 to say the ambualnce had just gone past his house.

so i guess if it doesnt go right, i will get there quickly.

I had HBs with DC 2 & 3, and I am now TTC #4 and feel the same as you!

Never hesitated with 2 & 3 but this time feel wary and unsure and even thinking of going to hospital!

thefirstmrsDeVere · 07/08/2010 23:14

Why? How odd we all felt like this!

MumInBeds · 07/08/2010 23:21

I gave birth for the 5th time at home having had hospital births before. If there are no pregnancy complications then there are a lot of good arguments in favour of a home birth.

The 5th has a fair chance of being fast so better to be set up for birth at home than get caught out.

Other children don't have to be as disrupted.

I felt the need to pack a hospital bag regardless of the plan to give birth at home that way I told myself I was just keeping my options open, it is easier to move from a home birth to a hospital one than the other way around.

Not up to #5 (respect!), but had fab home births for #2 & 3. Last one was a bit quick - midwife didn't make it and paramedics arrived when DS was crowning. Ever seen that Rob Brydon standup sketch when he talks about being in position, hands ready to catch the baby as it came out? That was DH Confused.

I'd still do it again; I think my only concern would be superstitious, ie it's gone so well twice, am I pushing my luck.

amistillsexy · 07/08/2010 23:37

I have only had 3 births, #1 was in hospital, and I hated being there (although it went 'alright' as births go), #2 was at home, but only because I was so sure I didn't want to go into hospital! It was a bit 'hospitalised' even at home, as they tried to fill my bedroom with all their equipment and i felt like I was being totally pushed out, and loosing control even in my own home!!
With #3 I was feeling just like you , and felt caught between a rock&hard place, so I decided to make my HB the best ever.
I bought a birth pool, fairy lights, candles, etc...made the living room look fabulous. Kept all my 'birth kit' down there ready, essential oils, calming music, homeopathy kit, etc. I also talked through all my concerns and worries with my midwives, and instructed them to keep all the crap essential equipment to a minimum.
When the time came, DH and I decamped from the bedroom to this magical place, lit candles, filled the pool, very calm and quiet. The midwives arrived when I was already in the pool and sat eating biscuits and drinking tea whilst I laboured in the water.
Ds3 was born just before breakfast, with lovely music playing and fairy lights twinkling. His brothers woke up and came downstairs to greet him, and we had a lovely time. every time I go into that room I think about it, and sometimes I go down there and light fairy lights, play soft music and burn rose oil, just to re-live the moment!
Go for it, and enjoy it. It will be wonderful.

amistillsexy, that souinds lovely.

this baby is due around xmas, so the living room will be all twinkly anyway. last time i had just moved house and in the corner of the room was packing boxes lol.

Congratulations misdee!

Go with what you feel comfortable with. I've had two home births but I know I wouldn't be comfortable with another home birth (not that it would happen anyway!)

Good luck with whatever you decide.

noteventhebestdrummer · 08/08/2010 08:04

Yes, I had DS4 and DS5 at home, a long time ago! It was lovely and relaxed, very little disruption for the older kids, great to go to sleep in your own bed later on.

If you're so close to the hospital don't worry so much!

Wallace · 08/08/2010 08:31

I would like a hb for dc4 but dh is really not keen - the idea freaks him out, he is worried about the what ifs. We are 25 miles from the hospital.

i had a lovely hospital waterbirth for dc3, so i think i'll go down that route again. if the pool is occupied dh says he will personnaly go and throw the occupant out Grin
