VBAC after 2 x c sections?

I know that I sound slightly deranged but I am expecting baby no. 3 in 10 weeks and unusually for me, this one has decided to wedge itself the right way down in my pelvis. I have had 2 x ELCS due to little buggers being breach but if this one stays head down, I really would like to try and deliver it normally. Anyone out there experienced a VBBAC2?

I'm hoping for the same but a good few weeks behind you. The advice I've had so far to be confirmed by the consultant is I can have a sweep at 38wks to try and start me off, if the head is down/ engaged I can be admitted at 39 wks and they can break my waters but if labour doesn't start they will then have to refer me for another section. Because of two scars they won't let me go past 39wks. I know that this advice seams to vary in different areas but hopefully someone else will come along with real experience

Thanks ANTagony. At least you have had a positive response. I have since had my appointment with the consultant (who turned out to be junior doc) who first laughed at my suggestion, then answered her phone twice during the consultation and then contradicted herself throughout the remaining time. I ended up in tears (just wanted to make her feel bad!)Shock. Off to see midwife tomorrow so I will ask her about it and also mention your advice to her. I still really want to do this. Let me know how you get on :)

That junior doc sounds very unprofessional! I'm hoping for a vba2c and I'm 38+1 today. I decided because recent evidence shows that the risks of a vbac after 1 or 2 c sections is the same (and the risks of uterine rupture are very low anyway). C sections carry lots of risks too and I could also do with recovering quicker.

Lucky for me my midwife and consultant are all very supportive.

I would definitely go for it if that's what you want - sounds like that is what this baby wants being so wedged down already!

There is a good vbac support thread on here too Smile

Saw Midwife yesterday and she was lovely. Head still down and she was fully supportive of my wish for a VBAC as long as i was aware that I could end up with an emergency cs. She did say that it was my choice although I would have to push for it. I asked her about a sweep at 38 weeks and she said the problem was that if you artificially start labour before the uterus is ready you are more likely to end up with an emergency cs. She said it was likely that I could push for one at 39 weeks though. DH not happy - I think he likes the organisation of an ELCS, now we don't know when or where baby is going to be born and he is all of a fluster - shame Grin

Hi Yummy,

I was in the same position as you - 2 cs due to breach babies and the 3rd baby (now dd2) in the right position. I had a fantastic vbac that took only 4 hours and all went fine! The only thing is, that I gave birth in Holland and not the UK. I wasn't induced and I wasn't warned about going over 39 weeks although my contractions started (and ended) 2 days before 40 weeks.

I hope you have the vbac you want and a lovely baby n the end :). Good luck!

hi all, watching this with interest as i posted about this same topic a few months back. i'm in the same position - 33 weeks pregnant, with 2 previous EMCS and would really like to try for a VBAC 3rd time round. The consultants want me to have an ELCS at 39 weeks and totally unsupportive of VBAC which left me feeling quite alone. it doesnt help that my last EMCS was due to 'failure to progress' which means that if the same happens, i could be in for a long labour and potential stress on the scar and end up with an EMCS again, rather than an ELCS.

I have an appt with the consultant next Wed and hope for more support - from what i understand when i posted previously is that VBA2C is entirely possible, but the difficulty is getting consultants to be on your side when they would rather not take the risk of yet another EMCS. best of luck!

Hi, it has all gone tits up for me as the baby is breech and too small for dates for a VBAC. I was admitted in to hospital last weekend for monitoring and now they want to deliver the wee thing at 37 weeks. All I want now is a healthy baby.
Twocupcakes - When a VBAC looked possible for me my lovely midwife told me that it was my baby, my body and I was entitled to choose. She said that I would have to fight for a VBAC but reminded me that the chances of a ruptured scar were so small (>1%) and comparatively, a VBAC is less risky than a 3rd c-section. You need to do your research on-line. There are loads of interesting medical articles that you can find. Also Mary Cronks' guidance, and show your consultanat that you know what you are talking about. You will find that the younger docs are really excited about VBAC's!!
Good luck xxx
