How to tell if your baby is breech??

Had midwife appointment 2 weeks ago when I was 32 weeks who told me my baby was breech so I've got a consultant appointment on 9th September 9having previously avoided any hospital appointments) I'm now 34 weeks and wondered if there is any way of telling yourself if the baby is still breech or has turned? I think I can feel her head under my ribs and get very low down kicks but just wanted to check. Also this is my 3rd preg and previous two were head down from the start so isn't it unusual to have a breech now and does it mean she's more likely to turn? I'm not overly concerned just more curious

I could tell mine was as I could feel her hard head under my ribs, everywhere else felt soft. Sounds just like you actually.

did yours turn sleepysuzy?

I could tell that mine was breech because I could feel her very hard head. The sutures (gaps) in her skull were very noticeable.

I couldn't tell from the pattern of kicks or the location of the heartbeat.

I felt mine turn at about 36/37 weeks... bloody painful over enthusiastic wiggling and a suddenly silly shaped bump that then deflated again.

Couldn't tell without having felt that though...

No, she didn't they tried to turn her too late, so if it gets too near term, and still breech, think very carefully about whether you want them to try turn baby. I found it extremely painful, and it didn't work.

I ended up having a Caesarian, and she is now 19 months old!

Mine didn't turn and I didn't want an ECV. I delivered her naturally without any problems. I wanted either a natural birth or a C-section - wasn't interested in any other medical intervention (ECV or forceps).

Very normal to be breech at this stage. Much more normal with second and subsequent pregnancies for baby not to adopt the "proper" position until just before labour. Plenty of time still for baby to turn. Around 36 weeks is when you could start all the "optimal foetal positioning" manoeuvres (crawling round the house etc.). Any attempts before this and it's likely that baby will turn back again anyway.

I could tell as I could feel the head, kicks were high (feet were in front of face. I also felt the hiccoughs high as opposed to low. However midwife didn't pick it up until 37 weeks. By the time a scan had confirmed it was too late for ECV.

I spent a couple of weeks on my hands and knees waving my bum in the air - but to no avail. I insisted on a trial of labour but after 9 hours of labour was still only 3.5 cm dilated. I ended up with a CS.

DS was breech from early on (could tell from position of his legs and head shape at birth) but no one picked up on it I knew something wasn't quite right though, as he didn't move much - being frank breech I guess not! And, I felt this fluttering motion down low, like fingers, which I'm assuming it was.

It's just that I've been told I've got a large baby and even though i'm only 34weeks it does feel like she's not got much room to manoevre (well enough to turn completely around anyway!) Like someone else said I'm sure I'd notice a complete turn but I was hoping to have a fair idea of whether she's still breech just before the hospital appointment so I could maybe avoid going and go to midwife instead? It seemed a little bit early to me for my midwife to make the appointment when she may have turned round by then anyway!

Didn't you also find that it really hurts when the baby moves? As I said this is my third pregnancy and I've never experienced pain when the baby moves before but when this one moves her head, it's agony!!

I think SSuzy s right, i ws the same. At about 32-33 weeks i felt head under my ribs, i couldnt go sleep at night, cause it hurt so much. MW assumed dd was head down untill 36 weeks, told me not to worry. But scan proved she was breech i ended up having ECV.

had emergency c-section 33 hours after water broke! Finally got a doc who could tell a butt from a head, too bad I had gone through transition already But, I just wanted to kiss him when he said the baby would be out in 30 minutes!!! And...he was
