Feeling a bit foolish (TMI alert by the way!)

I'm about 38 an a half weeks pregnant and it's about the same time I started getting labour signs with my son.

Last night I was feeling a bit uncomfortable with cramps and BH. I have been getting this most evenings this week. Anyway went to the loo and did a big wee which just seemed to keep coming and coming when the baby moved. I just started to wonder if my waters had gone. (this is how labour started with No 1) I got off the loo and put on a towel and then 'caught' some on the towel at the next squish.

So off I went to hospital full of excitement that my waters had gone.

Anyway at the hospital I was thoroughly checked out and the midwife said it was just a wee.

The only consolation is that she said that she can only feel 2/5 ths of the head which is a new thing. So far the head hasn't been engaged at all. She also said I'm 1.5cm dilated and my cervix is long. Not sure what 'long' means!

The thing is I feel really foolish this morning. I feel sort of deflated and unsure of myself. Especially as I had to get someone to babysit while we went out at midnight! It was easier the first time around as at least no one else would have had to get involved!

I know what you mean I had woken dp up so many times on dc2 as I kept having loads on pains that when the real thing happened I didn't tell anyone till I had been in labor for about 14 hours. I was having cc every 3minutes and still unsure of whether it was labor.

I think we all have a false alarm and in a few weeks when you are holding your baby you will be laughing at the huge pee .

Don't feel foolish, AT ALL! Just feel very excited because You're on your way! Labour signs are very different with each dc, so you can never be sure, and it's better to be safe than sorry. With my 3rd, I had DH fill the birthing pool 4 times bfore it was the 'real thing'!!! (I swear I had a three-week long labour with him!).

So, relax and get as much rest and good nutrition as you can. You've got a marathon ahead of you and you need to be physically and emotionally prepared for it. Good luck!

Thanks for your messages I'm feeling much better now!

My friends took my son swimming whilst I sat on the side which was good to take my mind of things.
