Boring labour isn't it?

Having contractions between 2 and 10 mins apart - only lasting for about 20-30secs - apparently they have to be a minute before I think about going to hospital.

Petrified they are just going to stop.

Childcare sorted - bag packed.

Might go for a walk in a bit.

Ooooh exciting

Walk is good or, if you'd rather stay put (just in case), then trying to eat and drink something and watching a dvd might be a good distraction.

Keep us updated.

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 14:17

Had lunch - don't want to eat too much. That bit between contractions is just so suspense filled - what will the next one be like??

I know. I remember my contractions with DS started in a similar way. I was scared to go anywhere/do anything because I was expecting it all to happen a bit quicker second time around. 4 days later - he finally came out

Can you sleep ?? Have a bath ?

Bicnod · 21/07/2010 14:21

oooo, very exciting, I love these threads

How are the contractions intensity wise? Are you on your own?

I spent the first few hours of my labour bouncing around on my gym ball watching episodes of The Office back to back and trying to work out how to use my TENS machine.

Keep us updated...

VeronicaCake · 21/07/2010 14:51

Do the contractions feel productive? You need to trust your instincts and if you feel things are moving call the hospital. I never had a contraction longer than 45 seconds when I had DD 9 weeks ago, and they never settled down into a regular pattern or increased in intensity either but I nonetheless gave birth to her in under 3 hours.

If you take the textbooks literally that would mean I had a baby without ever going into labour.

Know what you mean about not wanting them to stop but not wanting them to start either. My thought process went like: oh no it stopped... maybe that was it...I hope I'll have another one soon...shit I'm having another one...why did I want that to happen...oh no it stopped...

KnitterNotTwitter · 21/07/2010 14:53

Ooooh exciting - definitely have a walk and/or a bath... Have your waters gone?

and GOOD LUCK!!!

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 16:38

Just back from long walk - feet ache now! Contractions seem to have peatered out now - tummy still rock solid mind. Went from 10 mins to 2 mins to little 15 second ones every 10-15min Have organised overnight care for my daughter - got dh back from work - now feel like a fraud. Called my friend who has just had unplanned homebirth with her second and she said she went from 10mins to 2 mins to second stage vv quickly, got all excited.
Not like first labour - that just gradually got more intense. I guess sweeps can sometimes have this effect - starts things off but then they stop? Sorry realised didn't mention in first post - had some last night, which stopped, saw mw at 10.30 who did sweep - which seemed to kick everything off - but now contractions are definitly getting weaker - was 3cm at 10.30 this morning.

Off for clary sage bath me thinks

Is midwife coming to see you again?

Bath sounds like a good idea, and then some rest if you can manage it. I reckon it'll all kick off again soon and that'll be it

keep us posted

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 16:52

I hope so bicnod going to see midwife over the weekend - please god let me have had the baby by then. Do I go get dd? Leave her? So frustrating.

OP posts:
addictedishavingagirl · 21/07/2010 17:22

i would leave her this evening, it would be more difficult to wake her up in the middle of the night and sort out childcare if they did get stronger.

good luck

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 19:30

Had a doze, got woken by contraction, then another timed at 1m10s - then nada for 20 mins AAGGHHH

Hold on, heres another, maybe this could kick off again.

Dh is cooking a chilli

Bicnod · 21/07/2010 19:40

Ooooooooooooo - very exciting. Did you stick with overnight childcare plans for DD?

My contractions didn't settle into any sort of regular pattern until I was 8cm - they told me not to even go in to get checked but I knew I needed to. If you feel that you need to go in then trust your instincts.

Keep us updated as long as you can - I'm on tenterhooks here

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 21:07

Thankfully did keep to dd staying away overnight - now 1m -1m30s contractions 10 mins apart - getting quite painful - just had some paracetamol, reckon I'll be calling the hospital again in about an hour or so, definitly kicking off again - YAY

Feels like labour did with dd - this one just thought it would give me a few hours to warm up - hes wriggling like mad between contrations.

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/07/2010 21:26

Sounds promising. Good luck

wonderstuff · 21/07/2010 21:42

Nothing for last 30 mins FFS what is going on?

OP posts:
skyeplusbump · 21/07/2010 22:01

more walking...bathing...massage...clary sage!
good luck!

Tillyscoutsmum · 21/07/2010 22:03

Its bloody frustrating isn't it. Try and exercise the law of sod - go to bed and hope they come back and wake you up . If they don't, at least you'll have had a decent night's sleep for when it does all kick off.

skyeplusbump · 21/07/2010 22:18

on second thoughts, i second tilly go to bed and invoke the law of sod!

wonderstuff · 22/07/2010 08:41

Went to bed - nada since midnight - well one contraction about half an hour ago. Called hospital and am reassured that I am not in fact in labour - this is the latent phase, which can hurt a bit - some of my contrations were a minute long, and they were coming regularly for up to two hours, how the hell am I supposed to know when it is real?

Anyway - dd will be getting here soon - really missing her. Dh has gone to work and is mega stressed. I feel like a total fraud, but it did really feel like labour. Bucketing it down her - me and dd are going to make cakes and do painting I think.

char3mum · 22/07/2010 09:45
