Bladder fistula

Hi I had a fairly normal birth (child number 3). Apparenlty, due to my previous c section I've now got a fistula between my bladder and vagina which means (apologies for tmi)I am catheterised and have bladder incontinence from my vagina. Baby is only a week old. Hospital has been lovely but won't be able to offer any surgey for 4-6 weeks until i'm recovered from childbirth. has anyone experienced this? I'm struggling a bit.

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

hi plash, congrats on your number 3!!
Sorry to hear you are having problems. Did you notice anything was amiss before having your latest baby?

Can you get a 2nd opinion?

thx. nothing i was aware of. The c section was pretty straightforward so was this birth. Baby was ventouse but only 7lbs and not much pushing. I've seen 2 urologists who have both said i have to wait for sugery as the tissue isn't good to work with so soon after birth. Because of the nature of the incontinence i can't risk leaving the house so am effectively housebound for the next six weeks...

That sounds awful

How bad is the incontinence? Can you try a heavy padded Tena lady slip? I'm not a doctor but how can you develop a fistula long after a CS and not notice until the next baby is born. If 2 different specialists have said the same then I guess you can't do more than wait. I'm bumping for you, hoping someone else can shine more light.

There is a thread about fistula, injuries in childbirth, incontinence, etc. Please try and find it and post again. The ladies there can share their knowledge.

Best of luck!

thx alot, i'll see if I can find that thread. I'm afraid I need something a little more 'industrial' than Tena lady...

Hello

I recently had a forceps edlivery and have been left with what sounds like a very similar problem. I had to come with a catheter in (for 2 weeks) to see if things improved but they didn't. I am now waiting for an NHS assessment and various tests to confirm their suspicions that I have a fiscula. Re pads, speak to your GP and they will sort you out. I too needed something must more industrious than what was available over the counter. My daughter calls them my "nappies", great!
