How would I tell if my waters broke in the bath? It's my 2nd pregnancy (dd born sept06) and the first time my waters gushed during a strong contraction - I rushed to loo and then hosp etc. There was no further water trickles as far as I remember. Have just had bath and suddenly felt different between legs (tmi -sorry!) kind of warmer? Washed and got out of bath wondering how I would know if my waters had gone. Am 36 weeks and have been told that I have excess fluid and a big baby and that my waters could go at any time - perhaps am just being paranoid?

The waters would keep trickling.

At the end of pregnancy there are lots of changes that take place, but they don't necessarily mean that labour is imminent.

The best indicator of labour is regular (time to the clock), painful contractions.

If you do suspect that your waters have gone, your midwife can test any fluid to confirm it.

with dd2 my waters went in the birth pool

I felt a sort of bursting / popping sensation and a rush of fluid

Both times my waters went with a kind of pop. No further trickling after the initial gush (at least not until well into the pushing stage). I launched straight into full on contractions pretty much immediately so not sure what to suggest except the obvious talk to your midwife. Probably not urgent though unless you get any other labour signs. Best of luck .

Thank you! Just wishful thinking on my part then as no continuous trickle. Honestly can't remember continuous trickle of waters first time around though - must have blanked it out! No contractions at mo' - definately sure about that.
Think I'm just nervous following things consultant said aboutwaters going at any time and having to rush to hosp.

I had the same - scared the shit out of me and only had showers for the rest of my pregnancy

DS was born three weeks later though, so I was never really sure what it was...

Though if they've warned you to be on the watch, I'd call them just in case, if I were you.

Pigeonstreetrocks · 15/07/2010 21:02

Sirboob - thanks for that! Will follow your lead and have only relaxing showers from now on. Glad not to have been only one in this situation.

Just keep an eye on things. If there is more liquid / you are having contractions / more BHs than normal / lack of movements, etc...
