Help with registering birth

I'm already cutting it fine as DS is over 4 weeks old and has to be registered before turning 6 wks which is next Saturday.

The problem is I've lost the piece of paper that has his birth details on it. I know it was in my folder that I had all my pregnancy notes/post delivery stuff in and I can only assume the midwife or maybe HV has accidently taken it when removing notes from the folder. I don't think I can register him without it so who do I call to get a replacement - the hospital/midwife or HV?

I can't ring the registry office as they are only open Tues, Thurs and Fri mornings so not open again now until Thurs and I'm starting to panic!

Looking at the Government website, I don't think you do need to take any documents to register a birth. If you want to check you should be able to do so by calling any registry office.

Any of the hospital / MW or HV should also be able to tell you - and should be able to tell you how to get another copy of the information if you do need it (they might also have found the original).

Do be aware, though, that you will probably have to make an appointment to go down and register your son's birth. Is he 6 weeks this Saturday coming (17th) or Saturday week (21st)? If the former you might want to look into whether there are any other registry offices that you could get to that have wider opening hours, just in case your local one is all booked up this week...

Panic over, rang the HV and she actually had it - she must have accidentally sccoped it up along with my other paperwork.

DS is 6wks on 23rd so I need to get booked in quickly - I can't believe I've left it so late, it was just another thing on a long, long list of things I needed to do (a constant occurance with 4 DCs lol)

Thanks for your help though

I don't think you need to panic, I went to the registry office to register ds' birth and managed to get an appointment for that day. I live in a big city so was quite surprised at that. Iirc I didn't need to take anything either.

BTW my DH called the registry office when DS2 was 3 days old and it was 5 weeks before they could offer him an appointment.
