Really want a VBAC this time round

Hello,

I wonder if anyone out there has any experience or advice with this. I am 40 + 2 with pregnancy 2. My last pregnancy ended with failed induction and emergency c-section at 42 + 2 ( which was not what I had wanted).

Anyway, this time round because I had a c-section last time the hospital (doctors + MW), have said that they won't do inductiion process on me this time round and that it will either be a VBAC or a c-section at 41 weeks, which is next Thursday. I have had 2 sweeps so far, nothing so far, also acupuncture. I am quite keen not to have a c-section this time, though if it comes to the health of the baby of course I would.

The hospital have said they will not let me go over 41 weeks because of the risk of the old c-section scar rupturing. But has anyone else out there who has had a c-section waited till over 41 weeks and then had a natural birth, did the hospital let you? I am not sure whether I could insist that I would like the wait for a few days longer, BUT there is the possibility that I could wait and then still end up having a c-section. Any info appreciated......anyone had a natural birth after a c-section and it was sucessful???

Thanks

Bump, no idea on your questions but very interested that your hospital won't let you go over 41 weeks....did they explain why ?

I don't know the answer either but there is a VBAC support thread somewhere which is full of good stuff.

Hope you get what you want, but if not I hope you still get your healthy baby.

This link suggests there isn't an issue going over 40 weeks when attempting an VBAC.

Thanks!! I'll have a read of the link. The doctor said that because the last birth ended in emergency c-section that I am considered 'high risk'???? I am not so sure why they won't let me go over 41 weeks, just that the baby gets bigger and the scar could rupture is what I've been told

According to AIMS they say..

"There is no evidence to support the fear that larger babies are more likely to result in caesarean scar rupture, and indeed many twin pregnancies also result in successful VBACs. VBAC mothers have given birth to some very large and healthy babies, some of which followed caesarean deliveries of much smaller siblings."

i was allowed to go over to 42 weeks but after my first sweep i went into labour but my hopes of a vbac were over v quickly when DD's heartbeat was all over the place and when they broke my waters there was meconuim. so a c section was done v quickly but to be honest i don't feel so negative about having had another one. my scar might have ruptured too so we were both in danger and now we are at home healthy and happy.

good luck!

I went to 42 weeks aswell. Thats as far as they'd let me go and I was booked to go in for cs on 42+0. thankfully at 41+6.75 my waters broke so I managed a vbac. ds2 finally born approaching 42+1

I would definitely ask. As far as I know there wasn't a question of the scar rupturing once over 40 weeks it was the danger of the placenta not doing its job properly after 40wks.

Good luck
