How to help my 9 year old cope with woodpecker noise?

DD9 can be sensitive to certain noises but there’s a particularly difficult one just now and I’m looking for any suggestions! We live by some woods and a woodpecker pecks on a nearby tree starting from early morning for a few hours. The noise is causing DD so much distress, she really can’t cope. She runs around the house slamming all the doors and windows closed, crying and covering her ears, and she’ll put on the tv and turn it up really loud to drown out the sound. Any suggestions? She’s tried ear plugs but says they don’t work. Thank you!

Sounds like misophonia- have you tried headphones with audiobooks or music she likes in them.

Poor thing sounds like she’s really distressed

Over ear noise cancelling headphones. You can get them for £30-£40 on Amazon. They helped my DD cope with her first year in a ‘party’ halls of residence. I think these were the ones I got her. She still raves about them. Remember she’ll need music too!

Get her a pair of ear defenders.

Thanks so much all! How much sound do loops or ear defenders cut out? I think if she can hear even a bit she’ll be distressed as she’s so worked up already if you see what I mean… thanks again all
