Hi all
My daughter struggles with anxiety, and on the way home from school she was intimidated by boys from an older year group. They shouted abuse and took photos of her
Ive reported this to the school but can i make this a police matter, or am i over reacting
Shes very upset and now feels unsafe walking home.

I would say in this day and age you are definitely not over reacting. Contact the police. Hopefully they will take it seriously and prevent the boys from thinking their actions are ‘just a bit of fun’ or whatever way they try to minimise it. I hope the school are actually taking it seriously and your DD can feel reassured about going out .

You can contact the police at any point.

the police and the school are more likely to true it seriously if any of the verbal abuse was racist, homophobic or misogynistic.

i would suggest getting your child to write down what was said as far as she remembers it. Does she know the names of any of those involved?

Keep in mind, though, that if the police don't do anything, it will likely make the boys more confident in their harassment.

You’re not overreacting. This can be harassment. You did right reporting to school, and you can inform the police if she feels unsafe or it happens again. Her safety comes first.

Even if the police cannot take any action, they most likely will have a very firm word with the boys and tell them they are lucky and this is their one off.

You are not overreacting. Good luck.
