I wrongly thought the new OSA only applied to adult content. My 17yo DD has discovered she can't access Reddits that she has been using to support her self harming and eating disorder recovery - not Reddits that encourage these behaviours, but the opposite.

She's incredibly isolated due to her mental health struggles, hasn't been in school for 2.5 years, and online communities have been her lifeline - knowing there are others like her and learning how they've regained control has been more helpful than anything CAMHS has offered so far.

Users can submit concerns about Reddit’s handling of the UK OSA here. Just provide some context and why you and your daughter think the subreddit is safe, and shouldn't be classified as Restricted Content "restricted content".

Some platforms are misinterpreting and over-correcting (possibly intentionally trying to undermine the law). The OSA requires platforms to have reporting tools and to act on reports, so users might have asked for more restrictions.

I think they should add another age-gate, i.e. 16+
