Sick with worry

Since halfterm DD1 aged nearly 7 has lost all confidence, has become very sensitive and is crying a lot over seemingly insignificant things. She has always been a confident, outgoing and bubbly character so we are at a complete loss. Teachers have expressed concern at school about anxious behaviour which is interfering with school work.
We have recently moved house which has coincided with this behaviour. DD is also mentioning a lot of “mean” behaviour from other children. She has also had a blood test which indicated slightly low iron and infection markers (CRP of 19).
Has anyone else experienced this? Do you have any words of wisdom?

May not be this however it’s worth reading about PANS PANDAS - basically a faulty immune / neurological response to infection than can cause anxiety and other behavioural changes.

It’s a battle to get NHS to recognise it but you might be lucky especially if bloods show a recent infection. A frequent trigger is strep throat but can be caused by other things.

Any chance she has had a recent strep infection OP? With that history and presentation I would be wondering about PANS / PANDAS.

Snap! Interesting we both had the same thoughts!

I was going to say PANS/PANDAS too. My niece developed this at 15, but it's taken years to get an official diagnosis, and she's 23 now.

I don’t have much to say that will help but our daughter went through something similar and eventually it passed. She was 10 and we now think it was early hormones or just a phase she went through. We did everything to support her, lots of cuddles, love and talking about how she felt. We reassured her that whatever she was feeling it was normal. It’s such a worry but I really hope this passes. I would talk to school about the mean behaviour, that’s unacceptable and needs to be addressed.

There’s an incredibly supportive and informative Facebook group (PANS PANDAS UK support group) if you need more info
