My child keeps getting called an ‘op’. What does it mean?

Children in school call my child (14 years old) an ‘op’. They don’t know what this means and neither do I. Any ideas?

In "gansta" it's opposition, an enemy...?

Report
Sweetpotatofalafels · 26/02/2024 15:36

According to urban dictionary, it means someone who is annoying, following the rules too much; or opposition.

Sorry OP, hope they don't mean this 😢

She's going to have the last laugh then - she just needs to hold on to that.

I have just told her that! 🤣 She just needs to ignore it for two more years and she will be out of there. High schools can be awful places.

I’ve just asked DDs (14 and 15) and they’ve burst out laughing (never a good sign) now they’ve calmed down that mummy knows one of their words they’ve explained it as ‘opposition/enemy/someone you don’t like’ there was also a Fortnite reference in there. The other players would be the “ops”

Tbh, this is nothing compared to what she’s been through. School haven’t done anything for far worse. Children now seem to hate those that do well and are quiet. They become a target.

I'd lay money on it that she will have the last laugh in the long run. Poor her now , though. I'm sorry.

Tell your daughter that one day soon she won't have to put up with these losers. She will go on to have a great life whilst the little poundstore gangsta's will never achieve anything, even poundstores wouldn't employ them.

Is this all in the same school?

How old is she?

Can you move her?

I was bullied horribly at school and wish my parents had thought to move me.

Meghan Thee Stallion, Plan B: "Damn, I see you still kick it with them opp B-words"

Meaning women who she considers to be her enemies. I link the music video for context.

Content note: Plan B is Southern hip-hop and contains genre-typical use of the N-word racial slur, the B-word sexist slur, the F-word, and graphic sexual descriptions. It is not safe for work and shouldn't be watched within earshot of children. Why listen to it at all? Lyrically, it's like Independent Woman by Destiny's Child, but turned up to eleven.

Easier option but the bullies should move
In my days, you did not have the teachers caring
I was bullied as I'm not white and I was one of the
two in my class from another country, different colour to
the majority

It was the time of the NF and my so-called mates gradually turned their attention from the Irish lad to me and often called me a P and a lot worse even though we are not from that country.

Towards the final year I skipped classes to avoid the bullies got beat up a few times - I did not tell anyone - it was a nightmare. I did stand up to one who walked inout my classes (5th yr at school chosen subjects) and called me names, the teacher had not arrived - the bully was will a lacky - I stood up and got pushed down, No one supported me. Thankfully the other kids did not laugh.

I often think what I'd do if I ever met them, but then again people like that are often fit as they have no worries etc

School life is harder as bullies follow the victims into their home 24/7 via smartphones

Sadly, some of the bullies so-called parents, single parents, step-parents, boy/girlfriends are nasty vermin,.

Not sure what the answer is

Btw - over the 2 years of hard core bullying, I even stopped having school dinners - those days there were no packed lunches so o the bus, home for 10 mins, mum had food ready and back to school and 3 times out of 5, a few minutes late.

(I wish I'd learned the art of self defence, not sure why I did not, possibly because not as many oppuitiutes around at the time)

Good luck OP

Btw - the few friends I had remained - 2 they bullied away from me, but two good mates becme friends of mine and we had a few lessons together - they were English/white kids and I did not want them to get directly involved because of me.

There should be more education done in schools re bullying at school and via media.

Unfortunately she can’t move schools due to our work and house locations.

She is a lovely, kind girl who doesn’t have a bad bone in her body. She is nurturing to her sister and all of her cousins. I am so upset for her as she doesn’t deserve to be treated like this.

I have told her that these children have something missing in their lives to treat others this way.

Thank you for all of your replies.

That’s awful, I’m sorry for the way you were treated. 😔 I think that finding positives, e.g, it has made you a stronger person is the way you need to look at it.

I've been bullied at work as well but as I got older and more assertive with the support of my OH and good workmates, I fought back at work and got one bully sacked and others reprimanded. I wish I had not experienced that but felt a little bit bad. However, my work buddies reminded me that the little gang tried to wrongly and maliciously get me the sack but it backfired. (The job I did, I made sure I was very knowledgeable and worked hard to get this and learn from other peoples mistakes)

I wish you and your DC all the best. Always think twice at least before you act and try to consider what outcomes you want and may get. It's easier to lie low in the hope the bullies target someone else - nothing wrong with that its just self preservation

Thank you for your kind worked and I too wish you, you DC well.
