Has anyone helped their teen’s anxiety by checking for nutritional deficiencies?

DD has more anxiety as she gets older and it’s got to a stage where it’s holding her back .
i am going to ring the GP but wondered if it’s also worth ruling out deficiencies too as she’s had years of a limited diet due to an intolerance . I just feel something might be off balance

It might be worth consulting a nutritional therapist. I have a couple of friends that are nutritional therapists and they are very tuned in to how diet can affect health and mental health. Much more so than dietitians who seem to all promote the same healthy diet approaches rather than being able to focus on specific micronutrients and beneficial supplements.

I think everyone should have a blood test every few years to check for deficiencies. Some people struggle so much with depression/anxiety etc and go through treatment, when in reality the symptoms were caused by something that could have easily been treated with a supplement. Obviously not everyone can be treated that easily, but it's definitely something worth thinking about.

Thank you for these kind replies . I didn’t know a nutritional therapist was the person I was needing so this is really helpful , I’ve been to a functional medicine naturopath before who was brilliant but has an alarmingly long waiting list so I will look into this .
thank you so much . I did do research into very good vitamins and minerals for teens but she won’t swallow anything and is very hard to help !

Yes, my son had major issues. Really improved with the nutrition his doctor recommended.
The brain is made up of a lot of fat. More than 60%. They need healthy fats at this stage. The brain is pruning almost as quickly as 0 to 5 years of age and their bodies are growing. They need a lot of nuts and seeds and avocado and olive oil. My son improved with hydroxy b12, phosphadytlserine, magnesium and fish oil EHA DPA. But that is my son. Nutrition deficiency definitely affects us.

Follow Doctor Amen on Instagram as well for nutritional advice and Doctor Mark Hyman. Hyman has a book called Pegan that might be helpful. Doctor Amen has several books too. They are all about the Farm-acy but are trained MDs. Amen is a psychiatrist
