Where to turn for help?

My DS9 is really struggling with anything new and is generally super anxious which shows as feeling sick.

It seems to be getting worse so today I made a dr apt. The dr seemed abit annoyed as it wasn't an emergency but that's on the receptionist hey ho. Checked his tummy and physically he is well.

When asking questions etc I explained he is SEND and has a EHCP in place. The drs advise was for me to go back to the senco at school and ask them to refer back to the gp who will then refer to CAMHS for an assessment (this could take a year, fine).

So I've emailed the senco at school, she's just replied with CAMHS phone number and told me to self refer. She will then speak to me in September when back at school.

What is the process for getting an assessment? I'm so confused how to get him the help he needs.

If DS has an EHCP, does it include MH support and other therapies? If so, they need to be provided, and DS doesn’t need to sit on the normal waiting lists.

If the EHCP doesn’t include such provision, you need to ask for an early review or reassessment of needs with the aim of amending the EHCP to include MH support and other therapies. IPSEA has a model letter you can use.

Thank you for the reply. I will check his EHCP but I think it's mainly educational support.

I think it's going to be difficult as he seems to cope relatively well when at school.

Therapies can be SEP and can be in F.

You may have to appeal, but it is possible to get support for DC who appear to be ‘fine’ in school.
