I thought dd was self harming because of anxiety. Thinking more likely to be ADHD. She talks about feeling overwhelmed a lot if the time, she seems to have waves of energy that increase as the night draws in. Often ends up crying and in a total state asking for help. Her brain all scrabbled up she says.

Anxiety is a common co-morbidity with ADHD.
The two issues could be coming together to cause high levels of distress.

Does she have a diagnosis for either?

Consultant diagnosed moderate anxiety, he said maybe adhd. It just seems so obvious to me looking at her energy levels. She is well behaved at school though, doing well in most subjects. Would adhd teen be also disorganised/ inattentive?

Girls mask things well! My DD is the same age abs started at Christmas abs fell apart, we're awaiting an assessment, she's been off school for months and being supported by CAMHS and Harmless
Good luck you can self refer through CAMHS

Yes.
A teen with ADHD could be disorganized/ inattentive. They don't have to be disruptive at school to have ADHD.
Is she or the school identifying any issues at school?

Look up female traits of Adhd. Signs of adhd will have been there earlier although ignore the sterotype of adhd

Thankyou. School says she gets emotional in class sometimes. DD says she feels overwhelmed,in school she forces herself to stay put, at home she goes a bit hyper) may explode/get angry.

I looked into everything I could get hold of online and it's eye-opening specifically the women and ADHD sites.
I'm old but discovered Instagram was good for maybe not so typical traits that are instantly recognisable.
We had "maybe ADHD" suggestions but unless you push it won't happen. I did, and it was slow.

Turns my dd doesn't have ADHD, just anxiety, sometimes the 2 mimick each other, apparently.
