My 15 yr old has been struggling with anxiety since last March when the schools went back after lockdown. She had always been quite anxious as a child and was often sick and worried when travelling or at sleepovers or school residentials, however she was very social. Her MH really took a nose dive when she did her mocks last June when she was physically sick with worry before school and often during exams. Because of this "being sick" she stopped eating because although she felt sick and retched she wasn't actually sick. So most mornings last term she went to school without breakfast- she messed up her December mocks due to anxiety which means can't apply to 6th form as she didn't get good enough grades.
She has been so happy this last week eating 3 full meals a day, happy in her room watching netflix, talking to friends on the phone - no real worries about having to go anywhere or see anyone. No exam or school worries or worries about being out the house - until today - when we had plans for a day out and just before we got on the train she was physically sick. She woke up feeling really good and excited and ate breakfast but the anxiety didn't hit until she saw the train and then she was sick. The anxiety is always worse in the morning so if we have to go on a train or out in the afternoon she isn't usually as bad. She tells me she loves being home and in her room because she never feels anxious at home.
I don't think she is depressed because she is generally happy if she doesn't have to be around people or out of the house. Being around people and in crowds is what makes her sick. I keep putting off going to the GP because we have periods when she isn't anxious but these periods are times when she can stay home all the time. Does anyone know if GP's can prescribe anti sickness medication for anxiety??
