Today, DD 17, ate chips at college, with her fingers. Grin

This is the first food she has eaten outside of the house that we didn't provide for around 18 months.
She also these days won't normally touch food with her fingers at all, even at home.

Little steps. Smile

That's huge. Amazing. My daughter has a limited diet and ate ketchup today. It's not something she'd usually eat. Like you say. Little steps.

That's brilliant OP Smile May I be the first to congratulate her on her choice of food. Will raise a chip to her tonight Grin

Fantastic progress!

KingJeremyTheWickedd · 03/12/2021 18:52

That’s brilliant OP! I found the communal eating at college really helpful. The pressure was off what we were eating and more about chatting and spending time together (We also ate chips a lot!!)

myrtleWilson · 03/12/2021 18:55

Am so pleased @TeenMinusTests - great news

BasiliskStare · 03/12/2021 18:56

Flowers @TeenMinusTests friend of mine went from - let us say faddy eating to much more normal eating and it was step by step .

Notgoingonholiday · 03/12/2021 18:57

As a mum of a 17 year old DD with her own issues I can feel how important this is for you, great news.

TeenMinusTests · 03/12/2021 18:59

Thanks. She's been taking soup in a thermos all term. It's not an eating issue per se, but a germ anxiety one. The aroma of someone else's food was too tempting at last.

Lovely news - small things like this make you feel on top of the world don't they.

hivemindneeded · 03/12/2021 19:13

Prescottdanni123 · 03/12/2021 19:13

That's brilliant!

SwanShaped · 03/12/2021 19:20

That’s amazing!! I hope college is going well for her, I know you’ve both worked so hard to get there.

ittakes2 · 03/12/2021 19:37

My daughter also has ocd. I am so pleased for her/you. Has she tried sertraline?

Hermanfromguesswho · 03/12/2021 19:45

That’s a huge step! How wonderful 🥰

Stichintime · 03/12/2021 19:49

Glad she found the chips too hard to resist!

DriftingBlue · 03/12/2021 19:57

That is wonderful.

Thanks for celebrating with us. It’s a great feeling when your kid makes progress. Most of the time you can’t even show them just how thrilled you are.

TeenMinusTests · 04/12/2021 07:21

Thank you all, it is nice to be able to share successes as it helps me feel more positive, and hopefully gives hope to others too.
College has its ups and downs, but going better than we would have anticipated at the start of term. We are going through an ehcna.

@ittakes2 - she's on fluoxetine

I hope it’s given her a bit of a boost too. It’ll be something to refer back to if she’s struggling.

manchestermom5 · 04/12/2021 08:41

That's brilliant!

gogohm · 04/12/2021 08:55

Brilliant! Unless you or your loved one has had eating issues it's hard to understand how exciting it is to see them be normal. We are 18 months on from crisis

TeenMinusTests · 07/12/2021 15:36

So on Friday a friend got the chips for her.
Today she queued inside and bought her own (and ate them). Grin
