Hi - interested to hear experiences of Elvanse / Lisdexamfetamine as an alternative to concerta/methylphenidate? Dd is nearly 16. Thanks

Teen was on elvanse (50 then 70) for 4/5 years.
Did calm the impulsivity and helped with school work & performance. Did suppressed appetite so they didn’t eat all day but, from 9pm onwards, when it was wearing off was constantly eating for a couple of hours.
Also became moody, grumpy and quite aggressive.
Decided themselves to stop taking it-school work was really affected (GCSE year so affected grades) but happier in themselves.

Thank you. Was that after trying methylphenidate?

Yes, was on concerta for a couple of years first.

I am on it as an adult, def loss of appetite but I haven't had any other issues and my husband says my moods are better and my anxiety is lessened. It has been really helpful for me.

Life changing. Tried it after no effect from methylphenidate (and lots of side effects). DD is very sensitive to drugs so only takes 20mg which is very uncommon. No side effects at all. The problem is that it’s purely trial and error - you just don’t know what will suit a specific individual until you try. DD’s focus and academic performance improved dramatically. Going from 40-50% in maths A level to 80-90%. Similarly, English Litvessays became a lot sharper and focused. Anxiety disappeared. Immediate effect.

My daughter is on it and it's worked well. She was on the cusp of being thrown out of college doing her her A levels but just got 3 As. It's made a massive difference. Dosage she is on 30mg after 40mg affected sleep too much.

My son has been on 30mg for a good couple of years. It really affects his appetite so if we are having a day at home I don't give him it so he eats a bit more.
Done wonders for his concentration.

Dd aged 20 has been on it for 3/4 years - it was life changing for her. It allows her to concentrate, manage her anxiety and her ASD. She accidentally ran out recently and it was a brutal reminder of how much she needs it. It does impact appetite but she manages that. She is at uni and doing amazingly - a few years ago we did not think that would be possible.

DD aged 20 was on it for a while recently. It did help with concentration and made her calmer but it also made her agressive and very argumentative. Not sure the gains were sufficient and it seemed to change her personality and not in a good way! But it may work well fir your DC, it's all trial and error.

Thank you all for your experiences. Looking like we are going to have to trial it next week after not really getting v far with methylphenidate - about 30 mins improvement on the fast acting version with increased bp and heart rate, and quite a slump after. Had the rest of you tried methylphenidate already ?

Nvcontrolfreak - interesting what you say re essays. My dd is really struggling with gcse essays which are very formulaic as she lacks the ability to be concise and focused despite being very articulate. It’s an enormous source of stress for her .
