So my son is 9 years old and whilst on holiday about 4 weeks ago he ate something and a bit stuck in his throat and he got a scare that he was choking but he was fine.
Since this incident he is scared he is going to choke on food.
He basically living on tomato soup, drinking yoghurts and chocolate buttons(as they melt in his mouth before he swallows them).
Prior to this he was a really good eater, probably could have ate more veg but his diet was relatively good.
I contacted my gp when we got back from holiday and she said just to give him time, try not to make big deal of it and let him eat what he’s comfortable with and it will improve in time.
We’re now about a month on and nothing has improved,I’ve tried to get him to eat some solid food and he’s managed pasta and chips but only 1 bite which he chews for ages but looks terrified when swallowing.
I’m getting a bit worried now as he is gradually starting to lose weight and I don’t know how to help him?
Just for background info he is suspected to have autism but no formal diagnosis yet and he is very anxious in general.
Thanks
