My ds2 - 17.5 years - has struggled with his mental health forever. He has anxiety and depression (I suspect bipolar) and can be volatile and violent. He has been on Prozac at times, but not currently. He's really bad right now and wants to go back on it. This year is A level year and will be hugely challenging for many reasons.

Given his age, and the fact that the camhs waiting list is months long, do you think that the GP will be able to represcribe? Or will it be back to the bottom of the waiting list. He's reluctant to re- engage with counselling but I will be pressing him on this. It has benefited him in the past.

We are currently on holiday, managing meltdown after meltdown. That's why I'm asking here, and not straight down the GP's surgery!

Usually you'd need a psychiatrist to prescribe it but given his age, GP might be willing. If not, they might do you an urgent re-referral.

Sorry to hear about the meltdowns. We get them too, have a pans/pandas diagnosis. I'm hoping to get some phernagan next week when we see psych.
