My son is 7 years old

He has always been very fidgety, slightly emotional and tried to chew anything he can.

Also very messy eater and clumsy.

Been tested for autism when he was 3.5 years old they only found sensory processing delay.

Now that he is 7 in few month I had pushed for testing for ADHD.

Can anyone please advice me what will happen at those assessments ( in 6 month time) and on what grounds did they determine that your child is ADHD

I am going out of my mind

Many thanks

Our boy was diagnosed with ADHD aged 6. We opted for a private diagnosis but it was completed by a psychiatrist who works for the NHS so I don't think the process was that different

Prior to the first appointment we asked the school to provide a brief summery of what they were noticing at school and we also wrote down other settings where we had noticed issues (football, tennis lessons)

During the first appointment we talked over his history, this included pregnancy and birth, what he was like as a child, did he hit milestones etc...
Questionnaires were then issued to us and the school to be completed, how these matched up ultimately determined the diagnosis.

Having the support of the school made all he difference and although they weren't reporting many 'behavioural' issues they had noticed lots of traits when it came to his school work, his teacher was able to give a very detailed and honest account.

Hope it all goes well for you.

Hi
Thank you for your reply

Could you tell me what they were actually looking at when determining the diagnoses ?

I was diagnosed as an adult but they wanted to know what I was like at school and at home

The questionnaire looks at emotional, behavioural and academic levels. If you have a look at the NHS ADHD symptoms page that's a good starting point. Think about how your child fits the criteria.

We are currently getting my dd6 assessed for adhd. The first appointment was just a chat and asking questions about what my concerns were. My dd was taken into a separate room to play with a couple of people think one was a speech and language and one was a psychologist. Then we had to fill in the Conners questionnaire assessment and the school got one to fill in as well. We go back in a couple of weeks for the results of the assessments.

We will finally have our first assessment next week
Very worried about it but hopefully will okay

Hello, my ADHD 9 year old keeps on trying to look up inappropriate things on her iPad and I can’t seem to control her.

I have put parental control and timers on the iPad and blocked words and sites that I don’t want her to access as well. She finds looking up things that she knows are bad things funny and will try and hack the system whenever she can. For example, she will put accents on the words (like for example “hate” to “hátè” and she will access the sites in this way and I can’t keep on top of the tactics she’s doing.

Today she made an account on a dating site and when I tried to talk to her about it, and stressed to her that this is a dangerous thing to do, she doesn’t seem to listen to me because of her ADHD.

Has anyone else had this problem and is there any other internet programs I can download or safety programs? Has anyone else had this problem with their child?

Thanks for your help Smile

@RachelGus I would be taking the iPad off her and only letting her on it supervised.
I don't know of any programs that can block this.
